Will Kovy be a King? Yes or No?

I know there are many more doubters on this board than the believers, so, let's put it to a vote.

Like I said, if Kovy's not a king, I'll eat my word and not post for a month. Any (regular) naysayer want to match me on this?

I'm not a regular. But I'm a naysayer. So I'll match that.

I'm thinking there is a 50/50 chance he's a King if he goes to free agency. Just a few months ago I would have said the chance was at most like 15%.

No.

Nothing against Kovalchuk or the Kings. It actually makes a lot of sense that he does go to LA, but I can't remember the last time that a player who was rumored to want to go to a certain team as a UFA actually did go there when he finally hit the market.

A team like STL/NYI/etc. could give him a 8 million/year contract or he could take a discount with a contender like WSH/SJ/etc. or he could resign with NJD/ATL or he could leave for the KHL.

There are just too many factors and unknowns, and in my experience these things never unfold how people expect them to.

I said no, only because I think there will be some unexpected suitors who will really push for him.

I'd say the chances are north of 60 percent.

Devils are players as well, Colorado might make a run at him, Islanders etc.

The only team that really worries me is the Rangers. ****king Sather is a moron. Kovalchuk and Gaborik will not take that team all the way. But he seems to think that overpaying for Free Agents is the way to go...when obviously it hasn't got him anywhere. Plus they just waived 3 players to make room for salary....****!

The Blues will take him. Plenty of talent there with Berglund, Oshie, Backes, Boyes etc.

No.

It makes the most sense for him to sign in LA, but another GM will offer way more money. It will be a team that had already said they are not players.

But if he were in it for the money why didn't he take the 13Mil offer from the KHL?

Wow, I'm really surprised (pleasantly so) that so many of us believe in DL and the kings. That's just Awesome!!!

Taking into consideration that there are 2 NO votes from visitors, the YES votes are looking good thus far.

Honestly, it'd be the biggest thing since Gretzky. The pessimist in me says we won't see Kovy in a Kings jersey.

exactly....with the rumors of people saying he wants to play here, plus the quote he made a few weeks ago saying something like, "i think it will all be decided very quickly", makes me think he's talking about LA. God I hope i'm right tho.

I voted yes but I believe it will come down to how much Kovy wants to be in LA.

I get the feeling that DL will come in with a cap hit of $7M on a 10-year deal, but STL or NYI will offer nearly $10M in the same term.

So I voted no.

I could see STL going after Frolov instead. STL might have tons of cap space...but they also have 11 roster spots to fill...plus they have to resign RFA E.Johnson,Perron, and Halak who will all get decent raises.

It's really not about the money for Kovy, it's about WHERE he wants to play. If it were about money, then he'd be in ATL or KHL.
