Its a shame too. I was excited when the Oilers acquired him from LA. He's pretty well our last remnant of Joni Pitkanen too.

He can pull a regular shift, but he does take a brutal penalty every game at the worst time it seems. Go read Oiler game day threads ha ha.

he seems to have lost any hockey sense he used to have. He's been going downhill since being named captain.

According to some Edmonton media, they needed to get rid of him and start fresh int he locker room. He's a good guy overall.

Don't think we will be able to grab Spezza with Penner + Cogs when it wouldve taken that plus Smid to get Heatley and he publicly demanded a trade reducing his value...

Have three top flight rookies make the team...

Good move. The oilers have too many skill forwards. They were stepping on each others toes and hampering development. They needed to trim the fat and bring in some quality defensively oriented players.

Technically inaccurate.

They have to clear before they can be bought out. Can't buy them out till tomorrow. LeBrun got a bit over zealous.

He can still be a decent checker. He still has grit and toughness, but his offensive upside is continually waning. He's a culture change casualty to the Oilers.

I thought there would be a minor deal to send him somewhere that would like to improve their bottom six like Vancouver.

He means for other teams.

If a team offered him a 1 year contract at a cheap rate, could he be useful on the 4th line ? Be physical, pot a few goals and be a good leader ?

I assume he and his contract were dead weight and he wasn't a locker room problem ?

It sounded like he most certainly was a locker room problem.

k add Smid then... even better for the Sens

The trade is mostly about the Sens having enough cap space to sign both Cullen and Z.Michalek though.

Penner-Fisher-Alfie
Michalek-Cullen-Kovalev
Regin-Kelly-Neil

Sick top 9 IMO although Sens fans will whine that is has no "true #1C"...

Something big? Hopefully not, I don't want another Heatley scenario. Also during this re-build, I don't see a need for a huge star to come in (Kovalchuk). Tambi also has said that they won't go after a big-name FA this year.

What I wouldn't mind however is using this spare cap space to fill in our bottom six. We need good, role players who can pitch in too. Maybe a centre like Eric Belanger/Jeff Halpern to go bottom six centreman with Colin Fraser. Add some grit with Shelley/Brashear and that gives us a fairly good bottom six.

Proposed Bottom Six:

Omark - Fraser - Cogliano
JFJ - Belanger/Halpern - Brashear/Shelley

That looks pretty good to me. Tough, hard-working, defensive bottom six.

Yes, he could still be useful in a 4th maybe 3rd line role, killing penalties, limited offense, and very physical, adds some leadership too.

There were rumors of him being a locker room issue, but nothing was ever proven.

I'm thinking Souray + Hemsky for Lecavalier + Meszaros or something along those lines. We really don't need Hemsky. We need a centerman.

Eberle.

Plus Brule plays center.

I dont think i'd want Omark in a bottom six, defensive role. He still needs to get better in that aspect of the game, and with his offensive creativity and size i think he's top six material who needs AHL conditioning.

Staios got traded a while ago. He plays for Calgary now.

Pisani is a UFA.
