Solid move. I supported Sergei for a long time but he really had to go. Dustin Boyd is a decent bottom-6 guy to boot and if we can keep Ellis, that settles the backup debate.
I suppose the future considerations depend on whether they will sign with MTL which I highly doubt, Ellis could easily sign as a #1 goalie with Philly or Tampa, why would he sign in MTL? We shouldn't give more than 1M$ for our backup goalie anyway.
So yeah basically we gave them Sergei for nothing.
I'm happy that we got a backup goalie now, I guess Boyd will play in Hamilton and may crack the line up later depth move.
Sergei is the best player of that trade but I guess it was writting in the sky that he will be gone, still Habs manadgement need to be better with their young players
Boyd is a full-time NHLer, there won't be any time in Hamilton for him.
What the ****, why cant we get ONE flippin' player over 6' and 200lbs. Is this an obligation in the Habs books somewhere's that says they CAN'T pick up some size.
Wow, great move by Gauthier! I had a feeling we were going to end up with Dan Ellis, let's see if he'll sign now. Dustin Boyd is a good player too.
What makes this trade really good is we got rid of a guy that pretty much hated the idea of playing anything but top 6 minutes+PP, for a guy that will be happy to play anywhere, anytime. It doesn't matter if Sergei scores 20 goals this year and Boyd only 10; it's a question of which player will make their team better. I think Boyd has a much better chance of making Montreal better than Sergei did or would have.

Basically, you just proved how little you know the players we got and the potential upside of that deal... All that for a guy not even willing to play for us anymore.
