S. Kost for Dustin Boyd and the exclusive rights to negociate with Ellis for less than 36 hours ?
Well, Nashville got the better player... but we got rid of a punk.
Oh and Boyd is a RFA.
Actually posted about Boyd a short while ago, seemed like he could be interesting. However, I think he might be UFA now since the Preds did not qualify him
So the trade is Sergei (qualified RFA) for 2 UFAs.

Considering that we had to trade Sergei - the return is better than expected because we got a NHLer. However, in a few years, we are going to wonder why we did this and how we could let Sergei get away for nothing.
Like the Riberio trade, there is very little upside here. (Conversely, this is why I had no problem with the Grabovski for Lang trade - we had a need and a it cost us a prospect for it, or the Lats trade -the teams took on each other's problem and each took on project with upside.) Here we are giving up on a young player who has tremendous offensive potential for a grinder at best.
It puzzles me why our management cannot get along with players who can actually put the puck in the net, a problem we have had for years.
This is gonna get fun. The management bashers are going to come out in full force in protection of a player who in all intent purposes would never have been a hab this year, and was very lucky to been a hab last year.
Montreal was just never a fit for him anymore. The ribs trade was bad because Niinima was god awful and Gainey actually thought he added depth while getting rid of a problem.
It was a bad move because a lack of scouting and a brutal player analysis. But SK had no where near the trade value of Ribs.
hahaha at the people who don't like the trade. Im surprised they got anything for him. He has just about as little of value as a player can have. You weren't getting anything worthwhile for sergei. However PG managed to get something. quit crying.
sorry I'm not familiar at all with him, can he hit and I'm almost sure he's fast(Gauthier)
Think of him as a better Tom Pyatt.
And for all of those posters who do not believe Ellis will sign with the Habs, do you really think Gauthier would make the trade without thinking there is a chance? Heck Ellis' twitter feed said "Pretty Cool!" Doesn't really sound to me like the guy has no interest. Plus Price might be good for 50 games, Dan will get his share of playing time.
Ellis can sign knowing he'll be 1B and not #2. Boyd makes moore a goner. I like it, if Boyd signs we're getting some young players and shaping up our team. I'm glad it wasn't some washed up 36 year old.
If we were going to trade him for rights for 36 hours, was there really a point to qualify him in the first place?
If we didn't qualify him, then he wouldn't have been able to get us 2 pending UFA players because he would have been a pending UFA himself. By qualifying him, now Nashville can have his rights for like 3 years BECAUSE we qualified him ftw.
