In 36 hours this deal could be Sergei for future considerations.
So a guy with negative value for at worst nothing and at best two players.

Well Gauthier did great here, and I am guessing future considerations pends on Montreal signing Ellis and the same for the Preds with Sergei.

People have to be pleased in he return, most were hoping to trade Sergei at the draft for a 3rd or 4th rounder.

Now Montreal has to trade Andrei there too and try to get Radulov's rights.

Montreal was just never a fit for him anymore. The ribs trade was bad because Niinima was god awful and Gainey actually thought he added depth while getting rid of a problem.

It was a bad move because a lack of scouting and a brutal player analysis. But SK had no where near the trade value of Ribs.
Ribs a bad fit . . . Higgins a bad fit . . . Lats a bad fit . . . Sergei a bad fit . . . next AK a bad fit. All the "pommes pourri" bad fits . . .
Perhaps it's not the players

I'm assuming it's based on whether they can sign Ellis or not. Would likely turn into a draft pick if Ellis doesn't sign.

Bahahahaha I would have gotten rid of Sergei for nothing! Fantastic. Even better if we get a player out of it.

The guy had potential. Pretty sure a whole lot of people defended that Andrei pick 'cause in the end, I did remember a thread "Sergei AND Andrei or Getzlaf" and the majority were going with the Kostys.....And it's not everybody who was dumb 'cause I really remember liking Sergei a whole lot. Kid had potential, but kid was dumb and immature. But he wasn't, like some other kids we have, used properly.

That's what sad about it. But true that he didn't have a whole lot of value right now. Thing is, it should have never gone that far. And it's possible that with his new team, he'll have a new start. Let's see what he does with it.

But right now, and some people will like it, as far as we're concerned it can totally be "addition by substraction"....

And for all of those posters who do not believe Ellis will sign with the Habs, do you really think Gauthier would make the trade without thinking there is a chance? Heck Ellis' twitter feed said "Pretty Cool!" Doesn't really sound to me like the guy has no interest. Plus Price might be good for 50 games, Dan will get his share of playing time.
Not to mention that he may think that he has a chance to steal the number 1 spot in Montreal this year. Halak did it last season. Price is not a proven #1 yet.

It's not because they traded Halak that they will die with Price this season if he's not winning.

If we can sign EITHER of them its a GREAT trade. At the draft everyone was open to the idea of trading SKost for a 7th rounder. If we don't sign either of them, I wouldn't be that worried either, it would be like losing him to the KHL.

If we can sign Ellis, then it's a ridiculous good trade for us.

Thank you captain obvious.
All I said was that for a brief few seconds I thought we totally fleeced antoher team.
No need to get snarky and presumptuous. Try and contribute to the discussion instead next time.

Bob Mckenzie just said exactly what i just wrote about how Dustin Boyd is a better fit in the bottom 6 than Sergei, and will probably sign with the Habs.

Finally, see ya! Even if he's gone for nothing but cap space, I don't care. He's a headache, who obviously isn't a team kind of guy. Get ready to square dance Sergei!

Both Boyd and Ellis are UFAs. Boyd was not offered a contract by the Predators.

Now we get to see what S. Kostitsyn can do as a go to guy.

The reason why we win the trade imo

ANDREI KOSTITSYN

AK will no longer have any distractions, his brother will be getting a legit chance in the NHL in the top 6. And he'll be able to focus on doing his job without worrying about his little brother. I think this is the best thing for the bro's, to separate them.
