No goalie does. Clemenson doesn't want to be a back up but he still signs as one every year.

More importantly, this is a really good chance for him to steal a starting job. He isn't a clear cut #1, he was really good 2 years ago, then had a mediocre 2009 and ended up backing up Rinne this year as a result. He needs a 1b scenario where he can fight for a #1 job.

This is ideal for him imo. He can sign a $2mish contract and have a chance to be a #1. Having $4m between Ellis and Price is ideal imo. Price is still young and I think he'll benefit from having another year to develop with a solid goalie who can pick up the pace when he goes through his inevitable inconsistencies as a young goalie.

Love the quote from Ellis.

I also love how more people are asking if Erika will be a Preds fan now, rather than about the players

I think the only way Ellis stays is if he truly believes he can beat out Price for the #1 job and is promised to play at least 30 games at a price tag of probably close to 3 million.

Think about it... He could easily go on the open market and get more money than the Habs are offering from a host of teams to be the #1. I highly doubt he signs.

I'm happy Sergei's gone and think Habs probably add an extra 25 points to Andrei's total next year.

I'll have to see how things play out with Ellis before I say anything. I don't like the fact that a backup will cost the Habs 3 milly...but he could possibly be a #1 if Price falters. Clearly the Org. is not completely sold on him.

Sergei will succeed in Nashville. If he was truly a headcase or worried only about money, he would have been in the KHL a long time ago. Plz educate yourself before speaking in the future.
LOL wow dude talk about taking words out of context, I wrote that BECAUSE Trotz is SUPER SERIOUS MEAN looking kind of coach, super serious (Saw a bio on him), it wasnt a knock on Boucher or even Martin, I am just saying that if Sergei still acts the way he has from time to time, hes a coach that won't take it MR EDUCATED, so please educate yourself...

Give Asham a deal and I'm actually quite ok with that lineup.

Excellent trade. Ellis might steal the #1 job.

Get rid of the brother now and get a real player in there.

Sergei will hate Nashville. Trotz will be in his face nonstop. I expect he'll be in Russia pretty soon.

I agree Ellis has a chance of signing as a #1 somewhere, but I doubt it. If I were a GM looking to sign a #1 goalie, I'd probably look at Turco, Mason, Nabokov, Nittymaki and hell, maybe even Biron first, who are all more proven.

I can already see a season of goalie controversy again, Price or Ellis? The story never ends.

Doubt it, the market is flooded and he is unproven as far as carrying a large load. Montreal is perfect for him. He probably thinks he can take the job from Price like Halak did.

Love this trade! Kosty Jr. shown the door finally. Enough with his petty drama. I really hope that we can work out deals for boyd and ellis. Both would be nice additions to the team!

Easy there cowboy, great lineup? We still need a top scoring winger, you now have Akos on the first line? oh boy...

So we trade a headcase that was scratched for most of the season for a roster player and a goaltender like Ellis and we lost the trade? Give me a break.

Ellis and Price would be great.

Exactly. San Jose and Tampa are each looking for a starting goaltender, after that there are only back-up positions available. And a back-up position in Montreal more than likely means a good chunk of games.

Weak third line and Boyd is a natural center.

The best player is Sergei...

Ellis is UFA and want to be a #1... I would be surprised if he signs with us with the salary of a #2...

Boyd is UFA according to some people? I hope it is not true...

Even if Boyd is RFA, it is a good trade for Nashville. Sergei will want to prove that Montreal was wrong. I expect him to have a good year.

BUT we had no choice, Sergei had to leave... with his bad attitude.

You don't judge people by looks. Trotz is one of the best coaches in the league, he consistently gets his teams to over achieve. He doesn't do that be being super serious mean. He does it by motivating his players and getting them to buy into his system.

kinda exactly the same way Guy Boucher did in Hamilton. If I recall correctly, Boucher had nothing but positive things to say about Sergei. Sergei will fit into Trotz's system very well. He wants to be in the NHL and has learnt his lesson. He rode the bus in Hamilton last year, earned 60k paychecks compared to 800k and realizes what it means to be in the show. He'll be productive.

Do you think I am wrong?

The hate on the bros is astonishing here. I get the hate for Sergei for having a big mouth and poor attitude but what did Andrei do? He is obviously the scapegoat here. Andrei never talks **** about the organization and always been professional to this team. I never thought he is lazy, floats or not a team player. Why the big hate on him? Pouliot was worst in the playoffs but i dont see the same hate on him.
