Eh, no thanks, he might be worth 1.5, no way at 2.5
Doesn't matter, market spoke otherwise. Good faceoff man, good pk'er. Can give you top six minutes in the event of injury and not kill you while chipping in some ok points?
Not every team needs his services, but to those that do he's certainly worth more then 1.5. And obviously worth more then 1.5 to a team that got to watch him a lot last year.

Can't help wondering though if we could have had Manny for 2, instead of making the free agent splash of Pahlsson for 2.6
Did he give the fans what they were clamoring for, regardless if he heard them or not, yes.
That's the issue. The fans on here were excited and happy that deadline day, because the team made a big splash. This year, they're not, because the team isn't doing anything.
I ask, which free agency day will be better for the long term history of this franchise, that one with the happy fans, or this one without them.
You seem to have a different memory of that day than what I do. I didn't like the signing of Commie from day 1. Had mixed feelings about both the Tyutin trade and the Juice signing. And I think the fan view was generally mixed.
And my answer to your question? Its a wash. Doing nothing doesn't get you any closer to the long-term goal. The moves that day? Filled obvious needs that if we hadn't have filled them, we sure as heck don't make the playoffs that year.
Unless we do better than making the playoffs as we did following those moves, in what respect is today better for the franchise?
What bothers me is seeing these teams who were in the playoffs, making moves to strengthen their teams, we didnt even make the playoffs, and what are we doing....nothing

How did adding playoff performer Sammy Pahlsson do for the Playoff Columbus Blue Jackets?
I'm just pointing out it's not a reason to get worried that these playoff teams are suddenly going to become even better just because they signed a player or two today.
I'll give you the same answer you've gotten 1000 times.
There are some among us who don't believe that the Jackets exist because of some massive conspiracy betwee Priest, Howson, McConnell, and the Wolfes to gain revenue sharing money/hate freedom/fake the moon landings/screw the STHs.
They simply don't have a lot of cash. So it'd be kind of hard for them to afford Kovalchuk/Gonchar/etc. This isn't NHL 2004 unfortunately.
Unfortunately, it may be like this for a bit. I hold on hope that at some point, the Jackets will get new owners/the arena issue fixed. Until then, we may have a few more summers like this.
I don't really know what to tell you. Perhaps cheer for a new team for a bit? Buy the team? Send some of these free agents cookies?

I would've sooner expected Michael Nylander to go back to Washington. I almost feel bad for those miserable pigf***ers now...
...no, not really.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

Let's cut through the hyperbole, Sam, so that we can be clear. Are you arguing that the Jackets aren't maximizing revenue sharing to cut their losses? Because, that's all that has ever been said with regards to the attempt to get revenue sharing. And, again, what "conspiracy"? Last I checked all of those individuals work for the same organization. A conspiracy of one?

They have a lot of cash. They simply choose not to lose more in this particular business venture. That's their perogative. Do they set out to screw fans of the team? Doubtful. Does their inability/unwillingness to spend indirectly screw the fans out of a better experience? Absolutely.

The lockout did all that it can do--artificially limit the difference between the haves and have nots. Until such time as there is a bigger source for revenues split amongst all of the NHL franchises, things will go on like this because only one part of the equation was fixed, the cost side, while the revenue side remains uneven. And what that means in the end is the league needs better media revenues in the form of TV contracts and Center Ice subscriptions, etc. in order for the have nots to be able to compete on more equal footing as they do in the NFL.
I for one am relatively happy that Howson's not in the middle of this here Charlie Foxtrot. G-d almighty. I kinda wanted Kubina, but at the rate things are going he'd be getting Bryan Campbell money.
