David Clarkson expected to re-sign with NJD today. Likely a 3 year deal worth about $2.6 or $2.7m per year.

Yeah, me too. Let's hope it's in the 1.7-8 Million dollar range.

Yeah seriously. That's an awful lot for a RFA, especially when we could use the extra million or so to sign Martin and/or other defensemen.

I love Clarkson but in no way, shape or form should he be paid 2.6-2.7M per.

How many years left until he hits UFA?

If the $$$ is on par, it can't be for a 3 year deal IMO... it better be somewhere around 5 or 6.

Milan Lucic got 4M and they play the same style, I'm happy if it's under 3M
we all know Clarkson can hit 20 goals next season, he's worth the money

Can a sign and trade be in the works (even if it rarely happens) ?!?!?

Hear me out. If Lou can't resign Paul Martin, we all know that we're ****ed defensively. Can a deal based around Clarkson + for Kaberle is Lou's plan B and Burke won't move Kaberle whitout having Clarkson on a new deal ?!?!?

Signing Clarkson one day before free agency frenzy when it can get done during the summer has me thinking... Can someone fast forward this **** cause I can't wait to see were PM will land and who will patrol our blueline in october.

1, so he would be giving up 2 UFA seasons.

I really, really doubt that. It's not Lou's way (all though, he has surprised me this offseason more than once). He's also a huge fan of Clarkson and put him as a priority this offseason.

If we don't re-sign Martin, trading for Kaberle does nothing for us defensively. Yes, we get a PPQB, but he cannot be expected to replace Martin's defense.

This puts us in a tough spot then. We need the flexibility of seeing David continue to blossom if we are going to give him that much money, and I understand David's POV that UFA years are more expensive.

I think the best move for all parties is a 1-year deal, and then Lou/David get to work on long-term contract as the season progresses. But, we know that neither side will do that.

We can add a more defensive guy during the season, that's not a problem. I'm sooooo sick of thinking defense first, offense second when 80% of our defensive core are defensive defensemens.

Can we have someone on our team that has offense first on his mind, PLEASE. If we lose Martin and add someone like Volchenkov or any other defensive d-men.... I'll ****ing puke. I want offense from half of our top 9 and defense from the other half, is that too much to ask for ?!?!?

Honestly, I originally though Clarkson would get around 2.5. So this report if true (and it might not be since it was taken down) isn't too crazy.

I wouldn't be shocked at all to see Clarkson's $$$$ get near $3m annually on a multi-year deal. People around here are going to be ticked when they see what he gets I bet.

If that's the case, our 3rd line would have 8M$ wrapped around Rolston and Clarkson...

It all goes back to dealing with UFA years (in this case anything over a 1 year contract). Take what you think the player is worth and add a million.
