I love Clarktard. But I will reserve my judgement on this deal until after next season.

I told you guys he'd be paid substantially more than we'd like. This is right around what I expected.

It's the length of his deal that's the killer. We will be free of Rolston in 2 years, how long would be on the hook for Cambpell after that?

Like I said with any potential free agent (or in this case giving up UFA years), take what he will be worth and add a million.

True, true. Still, I'd rather have him at 2.66 than not at all.

Yech!...Not crazy about a 2.6M cap hit for Clarkson...about $1 mil more than he should've gotten.

We've just pi$$ed away the entire cap increase on him.

He must have gotten 2 million extra for calling him Mr. Lamoriello and $1 million extra for drinking the cool aid.

Was it really a jab. If they couldn't get him signed trading him might have been the smart thing to do.

Doesn't matter he is signed. I guess this puts to rest him asking for a trade this year considering he is giving up UFA years.

I have no problem with this at all. Park him in front of the net on the 3rd+ line. He'll earn that money.

The guys willing to pay the price, I have no problems paying people like that. It's up to Johnny Mac to use him correctly now.

You are not getting a very good third liner with 150 PIM and 20 goals for 1.6M cap hit.

Maybe Clarkson will get 2nd line responsibility to go with his new salary and Langenbrunner is on his way out.

I thought he would be a little closer to what Cooke got from the Pens. But I am fine with 2.66. It lessens further still the chances of re-signing Kovy, however.

Jamie Langenbrunner and.... wait.... ummmmm.... yeah Jamie Langenbrunner.

That would have been our established NHL right wing depth this season without him.

Yeah, I love Clarkie, but I'm not too thrilled about this contract. That's almost $2 million alone added to Clarkie's previous salary.

So, so far we've added Arnott's $4.5 million and Clarkie's $1.8 million. That's $6.3 million we didn't have on the roster before.

Please people, don't get "Zubruscontractalitis" on this one. I think most object because the cap hit might hinder Martin and Kovy resigning, but this is a fair deal. Matt Cooke is 6 years older and has never had 20 goal season or had 20 goal potential. I wasn't expecting a similar deal. Clarkson was close 2 years ago and was well on his way this past year. He gave up UFA years and that's key.

he wouldn't have gotten anywhere near that much in arbitration....it's another one of those Jay Pandolfo loyalty rewards contracts....

1.6 would have been DOUBLE what he was making. I wish I could get a 300% + pay increase.

I wonder if Lou was afraid of an offer sheet coming along and that's why he got this done today?

I'm really liking the direction of our team so far this off season. All the right things have been happening so far...This is just good news, and the cap hit is more then acceptable. This dude is all heart.

*sigh*

Good for Clarkson - I'll always be a fan, even if he does wear that freakin' jersey. I love the kid.

$2.66 million is a bit higher than I expected, but it's not a ridiculous overpayment.

Good on Lou. He's a player that a lot of teams would love to have.

For what he brings to the table, when he's completely healthy, I like the dollar amount and cap hit for both sides. Very fair deal. Clarkie has the ability to be a 20-25 goal guy, while providing a lot of intangible qualities that other guys on this team simply don't possess.
