Devils/Red Wings

it would have to get done in about 9.5 hours but its just a proposal

Detroit:

Kovalchuk's Rights

New Jersey:

D Brian Rafalski (5 million)

* This trade gives devils a former stud defenseman. This gives the wings 10.25 mil dollars to sign kovalchuk and the wings can call up Brendan Smith.

Huh. Weell, it'd certainly be interesting, though Kovalchuk doesn't fit Babcock/Holland's two-way philosophy so much.

how much crack do you have to smoke to come up with horrid proposals like that?

the Wings give up their #2 dman for....what, a few hours of conversation with a player they can't afford and don't need?

yeah, freakin' genius

Even though Kovalchuk was intent on testing the market, Lamoriello said he did not try to trade his rights in order to get something in return.

“We did not explore it, nor did anyone explore it with us,” the GM said. “We believe if you’re trying to keep a player, that isn’t the way to respect a player.”
So, uhhhh. No.

No. Puck-moving d-men are more important than any other type of player on the Wings. Rafalski is more valuable to the Wings than Kovalchuk could ever hope to be, and the Wings don't need anymore forwards anyway. Pointless.

There's no way his rights are worth that much.

Wait, a Wings fan proposed this?

I don't think the Devils can take Rafalski back at his current salary, and in any case, Holland would have to be dropping acid for this to happen. Kovy's rights aren't worth nearly that much.

We'll throw in Rolston.

The Sharks offer Nabokov's rights for Rafalski.

It amounts to the same thing.

Alright fine, throw in Andrew Peters, and it's all but a done deal.

...wait what? We waived him? Why in the world would we waive someone as valuable as peters?

I'd rather spend money on a tougher D because thats our biggest weakness. Kovalchuck as a pure goal scorer is not what we need plus there is no way we can afford him.

Fine, we will even take Datsyuk off your hands.

To NJ:
Rafalski
Datsyuk

To Det:
Kovy's Rights
Rolston

Rafalski has a NTC, and he makes 6M per year, not 5M.

Well, in that case we'll just settle for Lidstrom. We'll even throw in the rights to Mike Mottau.
