Oh man. I would really like to get in on this dialogue (everybody knows I love to talk goal tending), but I'm too busy bashing my face into a wall for lack of something better to do.

might want to save a section of the wall, you'll want to have another go if no other goaltending moves are made.

I'd love to have Niitty back, never wanted to lose him in the first place. Hips, shmips. The dude is damn good, has never fully realized his potential, and he's ready to do it. He'd be great behind this team. We drafted him, so I'd still love to see him really succeed here. I felt the same way about Boosh, but I have much more confidence that Niitty can actually do it.

I can't imagine he'd have much interest at all in coming back here though, after the way he was treated on the way out. Nor can I see how Holmgren would bring him back after the way he handled that situation.

especially for an overpayment like that. i just dont see how half a season, and 2/3 of playoffs equals such a raise.

Over paying a back-up goalie, and then playing him like what he is makes you want to slit your wrists, but over paying a back-up goalie and then playing him like he is a starter is cool.

Got it.

Islanders played it right last year and waited the market out. They snagged Rollie and Biron.

Homer wasn't taking notes....

Not only that who would have really pursued him tomorrow? Even so who would have given him that contract? Liut is laughing at the commission he just got for a client he probably lost money on lol.

I love this.

So we overpaid a backup ****ing goalie so we don't look desperate?

Oh, the irony...

seriously. and if someone does pursue him for more than a million, its not like we dont already have a workable backup under contract.

I'll visit the Neighbors, lol.

Hopefully Boucher gets traded and we sign a real starter. Please god.

Bet my man. I have been skating for 56 years, but had to quit playing organized hockey in 1974 due the quack doctors back then. Thats called a bad angle five hole. Sure it sucked but it happens. Am I happy they signed him. Not really. I just hope they got some more moves up their sleeve.

Yea but, ya know, we don't wanna look desperate.

Certainly doesn't look like desperation when our GM overpays a backup goalie when we already have a backup goalie.

Hey, who knows, maybe we're trying to have the strongest backup goalie position in the history of hockey. Gotta have your priorities in order.

I'm a bit confused here, can someone help me?

Few serious teams pay their main goalie as llil as 1.6 mil per year. So I gotta think there'll be some Number One signed.

QUESTION: what do backups normally get paid?

Also, if Philly gets Turco for .. lets say 4.5 mil .... that's 6 mil commited to goal total. Is that excessive ? Can Philly fit this into the cap if Boucher is cut loose?

WHAT lack of defensive depth? Four very good Dmen, plus a 5th and 6th who get minimal icetime?

Dude, many teams have won the Cup with exactly that setup. Nothing unusual there.

Philly lost the Cup cuz they had Leighton instead of a bona fide Number One. It's that simple.

With all the respect in the world, maybe that happens in men's leagues in 1974. In 2010, that goal shouldn't ever go in against a decent amateur, let alone a professional goalie.
