Well, I think that having Havlat and Kane up front automatically makes them a better team than the Panthers. I'm impressed by how well Kane is performing in my game, considering he has a 10 in acceleration and a 12 in speed.

Andrew Turnwall has signed a professional contract with the Phoenix Coyotes. He has a 2-year deal at $875k each season, with $90k bonuses at 20 assists and 30 points. It is a 1-way deal. Turnwall is third on the defensive depth chart, behind Paul Mara and Jiri Fischer and tops the top prospect list.

Steven Dabney is 3rd on the center chart and was voted as "Most Underrated".

So it looks like barring unforeseen troubles I'll be jumping straight to the big club. Let the rebuild commence.

Darcy Regier, Jr has signed a professional contract with the Atlanta Thrashers. He has a 2-year deal at $875k each season, with a $90k bonus at 25 games played. It is a 1-way deal. He is 4th on the Thrashers goaltender depth chart, behind Lehtonen, LaBarbera, and Michael Garnett. He ranks as their 8th best prospect.

As a point of interest, the Thrashers top line is Kovalchuk - Forsberg - Hossa, and they have Phil Kessel coming in this next season.

Nicholas Guy has re-upped with the Kings, a 1-year deal worth 500k. It's worth noting that it is a 1-way deal.

If the Thrashers are smart, they would send him back to the juniors for another year...

Steven Dabney - Back in Phoenix for his third professional season, Steven "Sakic-lite" Dabney is hoping to start putting up some numbers in the goal scoring department. With one of the best shots on the team, the Coyotes will be counting on the young centerman to step it up. He played in 3 preseason games, notching 1 assist. He most recently was centering Brendan Morrow and Ken Petkau, the latter of which will likely not make the team. Possible options on the RW are Havlat, Kane, Vasyunov, and Parros. It is rumored that a Pacific Division team is looking to acquire him.

Thomas Duddy - Something's wrong in Minnesota; not only did Duddy not make the team, but he wasn't even invited to training camp. As of this writing, he's their 5th best centerman, behind Todd White, Pat O'Sullivan, Mikko Koivu, and Bryan Little, but this is a team that has Andrew Peters in their lineup. He is listed as their 2nd best prospect and will be suiting up for the Peterborough Petes of the OHL in his final junior season.

Christoph Gaspar - Gaspar recently played a handful of games for the German Men's team for the World Cup of Hockey, registering a goal and an assist, with a -10 rating. The Germans were slaughtered 8-0 by the Swedes. He also played in 6 preseason games for the Canadiens, registering 3 goals and 5 assists, with 2 hits, in over 19 minutes a game. He most recently played on the top line in the LW slot, with Peter Mueller and Jamie Tardif joining him up front. He is second on the Habs LW depth chart, behind only Alex Perezhogin, and was recently voted as their Best Faceoff Man.

Nick Grunville - Grunville will be entering his fourth and final season with North Dakota. Only time will tell if he retires afterward, or if perhaps an ECHL team takes a chance on the hard-working German. In 125 games in the UCWE, he has 15 goals and 57 assists. If only he could put up those numbers this year….

Nicholas Guy - Guy, fresh off signing a one year, one-way deal with the Kings, is hoping to make the NHL roster after three years on the farm. He is listed as 9th on their defensive depth chart, all 9 of those defensemen have one-way deals. In 5 preseason games, the steady 23-year-old had 2 assists, both on the powerplay, and saw a hair over 16 minutes per game.

Darcy Regier, Jr. - Darcy signed a deal with the Thrashers but couldn't make the team out of camp. He was sent back to Swift Current for the season, where the Thrashers have high hopes for the enigmatically conservative netminder. The 18-year-old is their top prospect, ahead of Phil Kessel, but, oddly, he did not see any preseason action.

Dave Trippler - Trippler chose to finish his education, remaining at Harvard for one more season. The Capitals have him ranked as their top prospect. Having improved in regards to his overall game every year, the Caps hope to see the 6'2" winger hit the 20 goal mark this season. He will likely spend some time in the AHL for seasoning before making The Show.

Andrew Turnwall - As expected, Turnwall made the Coyotes out of training camp and will be expected to make a solid contribution as a rookie. It's worth noting that his shot, which remained stagnant for his years at Michigan, has already improved a bit since attending an NHL training camp. He already looks like a veteran top 3 defenseman, and there's lots of room to grow. He put up an assist in 6 preseason games and may very well be on the top defensive pairing with Paul Mara to start the season. In a recent GM poll, he was listed as Team Leader, Best Checker, and Most Underrated. Oddly, he was also listed as the number 2 prospect, behind fellow 2008 draftee Grigori Bryzaglov, a 2nd round centerman. WTF?

Looking at his attributes, you're probably right. He has good speed, a a decent wrist shot, but his mental game is pretty poor.

Good for Darcy, he's not ready for the big league yet.

It's true, actually, and although Gaspar is good in faceoffs, there really should be somebody at least as good as he is.

Agreed. Playing for the Thrashers wouldn't help, either.

Steven Dabney - Playing largely in a 4th line capacity for the Coyotes, Dabney still seems like a player poised to break out. Centering George Parros and Milan Michalek, Dabney has 3 goals and 4 assists, along with a -3, in 37 games. He has 6 hits and is winning 53% of his faceoffs. He is playing an average of 9:31 a game. The Coyotes are currently 8 points out of the 8th seed and it will be interesting to see if they can crank it up and make the playoffs after consecutive lottery seasons. He is set to become a free agent on June 30th of this year.

Thomas Duddy - Preparing for another stint with the US Under 20 team later this month, the offensive-minded Duddy has been posting respectable numbers with the Peterborough Petes, setting a career high with 13 assists in just 25 games. He also is a plus 9 and has 8 goals. This is the first season of Duddy's OHL career where, at any point, he has more assists than goals. Playing 18:30 a game, he has registered 20 minutes in penalties and doubled his career total with a whopping TWO hits!

Christoph Gaspar - Gaspar has been centering the Canadiens 4th line this season, though he certainly looks ready for top 6 action. In 39 games, he has 5 goals and 7 asissts, along with a -3 plus/minus. His shooting percentage is up from 12.5% to 14.3%. With 14 hits and 22 blocked shots, his all-around game seems to be rounding out nicely. His linemates are Pierre Dagenais and Jamie Tardif and his average ice time is down over a full minute per game, to 8:38. His contract expires at the end of June.

Nick Grunville - Grunville's final season with UND is half over, and it hasn't been going particularly well. In 25 games, he has 4 goals and 7 assists, and only a +1 on the season. Playing a career-high 15:22 a game, he also suffered his first loss in a collegiate fight, dropping his record to 5-1. His faceoff percentage is phenomenal at 71%. Only time will tell where he goes from UND…

Nicholas Guy - Guy finally played a few NHL games, suiting up for the season opener and the home opener for the Los Angeles Kings, before being a healthy scratch for 3 weeks, then being sent down to Manchester. He registered no points with the Kings, but preformed quietly solid, as expected, registering a +3 over those two games. With the Monarchs, he has 2 goals and 10 points in 23 games, and a very good -3 rating. He has 25 hits, 34 takeaways, and 12 blocked shots in nearly 28 minutes of ice time a game. His contract expires June 30, 2009.

Darcy Regier, Jr. - Darcy's dominance of the WHL is in full bore this season as he has raced off to a 14-4-4 record, with a 1.67 GAA and .942 save percentage. Named first star 8 times this season, he also has 4 shutouts. It seems almost a given that he will set a career high in wins this season, and might very well get his WHL career record up to .500. Playing in 140 games, it currently stands at 57-64-19. He will be the starter for Canada at the upcoming WJCs.

Dave Trippler - Year 4 at Harvard for Trippler has brought some good news. In 26 games, he has 6 goals and 6 assists and only a -4. His shooting percentage is currently at a career high 6.9% and he has been getting more powerplay time, scoring half of his goals with the man advantage. Playing 18:43 a game, the young winger is in an interesting situation with the Capitals and there are some questions as to whether or not he can step up and play in the AHL next season. Scouts tend to agree that his development at Harvard plateaued two seasons ago and are concerned that he might not be able to improve as fast as the Caps would like. He will be playing for the German U20 team later this month.

Andrew Turnwall - Teaming up with Ron Hainsey on the Coyotes second pairing, the 19 year old Buffalo, NY native has had a very solid rookie season, scoring a goal [powerplay] and adding 9 assists in 36 games. He has two multiple-point games this year, which led to his registering 5 points in 4 games. He has a -7 rating, 37 penalty minutes, 39 hits, and 35 blocked shots. He is definitely adjusting to the NHL game, as he has 82 giveaways with only 10 takeaways. Playing just a hair over 20 minutes a night, the young stay-at-home defender has been in one fight this season….and lost, of course.
