I am still at a loss for this signing.... seriously.

I'm not hating on the player at all, he's a solid 4th liner worth 750k.

I feel like I'm going to have nightmares all summer.

I'm still puzzled.
Everybody around here knows that I've defended Homer more often than not.
But I'm starting to give up on him, Shelley does absolutely nothing for this team, he isn't even better than Powe in a fourth line role.
What makes it the worst signing in recent memories is the term, we have this bum 3 years on our cap, it's ridiculous.

I remember how everyone made fun of Burke for signing Colton or to a 4 year $4mil contract.
That's an absolute steal compared to this Shelley contract.

I think our fans are going to take to Jody Shelley just the way they took to Dan Carcillo, Holmgren said.


As i said he needs to keep the natives happy with this silly signing. They will never get awy from that, not a bad thing but need to be smarter. They could ban fighting and they still would have a fighter on the team.

They also have another 11 million to sign 2 or 3 more defensemen and 2 or 3 more forwards. It should be an interesting time for them.

Still, Shelley @ 1.1m > Boogard @ 1.6m

A few of my Rangers fan friends said they think it's a decent deal. Of course, they just got Boogard so we'll see if they're legit or if they're just saying they wish they had Shelley over Boogard.

I almost feel bad for the Rags. They have Boogard and Brashear, who are about as useful as a bag of pucks, and Sean Avery who will fail to fight but will run his mouth. Some Flyer is going to fight Gaborik again this season, I'm calling it.

What I don't get is, our 4th line was a strength of our team last year. Why change it? It wasn't a pressing need in any way. Does this mean Powe is gone? If so, I really have to disagree there. Powe is a much better player that can play on the PK. Very hard to figure this one out

The money is a little high, but other then that a good signing.

He replaces Carcillo who will move up into the spot that Asham had in the lineup which will allow Carcillo to focus more on his hockey then his antagonizing/fighting.

Much better choice then wasting a roster spot on a useless POS euro like Nodl or Pyorala.

They waived Brashear did they not? And perhaps bought him out? Regardless, pretty sure he is not on the team.

The only solace I can take is that we didn't sign Boogard to the contract he got. So it's bad, but could be worse.

Homer has no idea what he's talking about (no surprise there). Y'all know I don't like Carcillo much, but he was very good on the 4th line.

Cote was in the pressbox pretty much every game since Lavi took over. I expect the same out of Shelley - he's just not a good enough hockey player to get ice time. So instead of paying Cote $850K to eat popcorn, the Flyers will pay Shelley $1.1 million to do the same. Sheer brilliance.

nodl and even pyorala are both faster and more responsible defensively than shelley. they would also likely contribute a bit more offensively. there is zilch that shelley does better than these two between the whistles.

Don't we already have carcillo? Homer decided to replace asham with shelley???? He couldn't see that he needed another skill guy on that line to not waste giroux? Its not the 70's homer, you really only need 1 guy who can sorta fight.

I think we ought to be grateful that Holmgren didn't somehow give a a pick in the deal. I know that UFA's require no compensation, but I figure somehow Holmgren would figure out a way to give a pick to someone, even if for no reason.
