He's played 538 NHL games, and scored 16 goals. Lets not judge him on 2 games.

Normally I'd set you straight, but I'm so unbelievably pissed off and disappointed now that I just don't want to. So I'll just say this.

Both Shelley and Leighton have established NHL histories of sucking and being worthless, border-line NHLers. They both happen to be over-paid and play on the same team now as well.

538 is a very small sample size.

that was a joke. justifying an overpayment for a guy playing 5-7 minutes a game if he's even in the line up. just because he scored 2 or 3 goals against us in the last two games doesn't mean he gets and extra 500k in his contract.

i hate this so much. it's embarrassing.

Shelley is your classic case as one of those guys that had a few good games vs. the Flyers and Holmgren, Clarke, Luukko and Snider sat in a room and gossiped about how much they need to have him.

For those (like me) who talk about how Holmgren is scared to death about negotiating in an open market...here's why.

He's a big guy, and that's cool and all but...I think I'd still rather have carbomb. And after seeing some of his bouts on YouTube, I'm not even all that impressed with how he fights.

He was the best Ranger on the ice for the last two games? He was good for some inexplicable reason there. The other 536 games where he scored 14 goals? What's the excuse there?

I really really hope you're being sarcastic.

Didn't they do the same thing with Eminger! He supposedly played good against the Flyers in that series that we just had to have him for a first rounder that turned out to be Carlson.....

I still don't understand this signing. Why is the market for cement heads in the 1M range? Seems like the GM's are the cement heads paying these guys.

If a major trade is in the works it better be something good.

BTW I know O'Donnell was a good mentor and all and is hard nosed but couldn't the Flyers have gone after Mckee? Wouldn't he have been a better option than a 38 yr old dude who is playing his career out "one game at a time?"

Maybe Hockeypete49 is Keith Jones? I can't wait to hear Homer's justification of the Shelley signing. I just wish some reporter has the balls to ask him if he watched the 55 games Shelley played in the regular season before the last 2 against us -- and whether those 2 games were the reason Homer made the move.

By the way, I can no longer be convinced that I wouldn't do a better (at least no worse) GM job than Homer. You just can't make me believe that.

Dumb signing.. This still has me mad.

The current theme of this years FA seems to me like we are trying to get bigger... Sean O'Donnell, Meszaros, and Shelly are all 6'2+ and 220 pounds+

I agree with you here 100%. Some Friends and I sat with him at a local establishment when he first arrived in town years back, The guy either has short arms or deep pockets. We drank for hours and he did not spring for one round. I will have to admit he did take care of us on a later date. Nice guy as most hockey players are.

Long time reader, first time poster.

This move has pushed me over the edge. For the most part, I've tried to give Homer the benefit of the doubt but this move, I can't see ANY upside to it whatsoever. Absolutely unreal.

The Meszaros deal, pretty steep price to pay, but you can make an argument for it. Coburn, I like it. O'Donnell, alright.....it's not a goalie, but ok. Shelley.....?!?! Wha? Why???????

The best you can possibly hope for is that he gets buried in the minors which begs the question, why would we possibly sign him in the first place???

This better not mean the end of Carcillo here (which I fear it will).
Carcillo >>>>>>>>>>>> Shelley
Carcillo's 22 pts last year = Shelley's pt totals for the last 4 years combined. I know you're not paying your enforcer to score, but really, does it hurt to get the added bonus of a little offence??

I saw Jones talking about how good he was in those 2 games, but seriously, if you can TRY to justify how those 2 games = a 55% pay raise, I'm all ears.

DISGUSTING!!!
