Imagine if we never signed Shelley or Leighton. We have a sick d corps and Ellis in net. I would be extremely happy.

How much is Lavi even going to play this guy, since he likes to roll 4 lines? *shudder* What if we don't waive Cote and dress both pylons at the same time? We have ourselves a new whipping boy

Below is a transcript of today’s conference call with Jody Shelley.

Q: Are you looking forward to fighting Boogard six times a year?

“I so am. Absolutely.”

Q: Was this kind of a surprise move to you?

“I don’t think so. It’s a team we played a lot with New York. I wouldn’t call it a surprise.”

Q: Did Homer talk to you about your role here?

“No… we had a brief conversation, a congratulations… I told him how excited I am to be a Flyer, and that was about the extent of that. It’s a pretty busy day for him.”

Q: We haven’t had too many guys change their jerseys from Rangers to Flyers, although Blair Betts did it last season. Is it an odd thing to do that given the rivalry?

“I guess looking at it as a spectator, it’s probably hard to do. But for me, no, it’s what you do. If you go to free agency, you expect to go anywhere, and when this happens, well, you know what? I’m now a Flyer.”

Q: You had a choice in this… why Philadelphia?

“It’s a great team… you’ve got guys I hate to play against, and those are usually teams you have the most respect for. Philly’s just one of those teams that it’s just where I wanted to be… it’s where I ended up at the end of the day.”

Homer probably only saw Shelley's last two games against the Flyers and thought he could be a 40 goals scorer.

BARGAIN!

O'Donnell and Shelley or Malhotra.

Tough one.
Who needs a good 3rd liner/face-off specialist when you can over pay for a goon (who'll average 5-7 TOI per game) and a 39-year old defenseman for the third pairing? But we're not GMs, so we obviously have no idea what we're talking about.

Although O'D is close to 40, I feel he will be a tremendous asset to this 2010-2011 Flyers squad. He is signed for 1 year at 1Million. He is steady in his own zone, but has some trouble making the first pass. He will really help our PK even more and will add to our overall depth. O'D has played 1st pair many years in his career, he knows his role, but we may see him with Pronger if Carle falters, the team needs stability late in a game or is in a crucial PK. The more ice time taken from Pronger and Kimmo the better, when both guys are hovering at 30+min. If the Flyers can limit Pronger and Timonen to 25-27 per night and not see leads evaporate, then the Flyers are in good standing.

Agree 100% with all who point to this as the absolutely unsupportable signing of the day for Holmgren. How can he just toss away cap space without having solved Team Problem #1? Unless Shelley straps on the pads and outplays Flotsam and Jetsam, I cannot fathom what collective brain misfires within this Administration made this a desirable move for a team who made it to the SCF with their enforcer pigging out on pressbox snacks.

And to my knowledge, neither Turco nor Nabokov have signed anywhere. Great patience, Holmgren!!

Pronger & OD on a line scares me to be honest.

RIGHT?
Holmgren probably gave Shelley the ability to trade teammates.

Maybe it's not about getting a raise.

You can if you feel 13 forwards on the team are better.

He had a target on his back isn't a good enough excuse. He was traded here with the target on his back. The whole world knew it was there and Holmgren acknowledged as much.
