And if golden boy Staal had half an ounce of testosterone in his body, maybe the NY goal crease wouldn't be fair game for anybody in an opposing sweater to go crashing through. But since he doesn't, I guess maybe he should keep his mouth shut. That is, of course, if he's even here at the end of the day because I think his contract demands are going to get him run out of town.
I'm no where near suggesting Staal should get a 4.5-6whatever contract. My point was that the values are vastly disproportionate to the role they play. Yes, these guys are two different things. One is a UFA goon who will play 6-8 minutes a night and the other is a RFA #1 d-man on our team who plays 20-25 minutes a game and prevents other teams top scorers from doing their job. Who else on our team can stop Ovechkin? It isn't going to be Boogaard. Still, how are you gonna explain how Boogaard got over 500k more than what Shelley signed for?

So in essence we got a 1.65 million dollar hit man on the team now... awesome.

One of the most talentless hacks I have ever seen... oh well at least it will be fun watching him bash faces in I guess

I wish we could've kept shelley and rid of boyle, but Boogeyman!!!!! Hell yeah!

HOPEFULLY he'll break his own records if a coach finally has enough brains to stick him in front for a screen and make it his main assignment next to beating some ass.
why do you think every big player can be johan franzen?

I have less of a problem with this signing than the Brashear signing.

A 6 year old who's doesn't even understand the game of hockey could have pointed out what a terrible signing this. This has Brashear, Voros, Rissmiller, Hall, Kalinin, Kotalik, and Redden written all over it. It's an idiotic signing that doesn't make sense. It just goes to sure you how ****ed up Sathers priority's are.

I just heard on NHL Home Ice (XM - daily rundown of transactions before commercials) that the rangers signed him for 4 years, 3.6 Million..which confirms part of what sportsnet has.

Didn't we pass up on Orr because he wanted too many years? And went with Brashear for 2 season's? Why give this reject 4 years? I can't understand why Sather flip-flops..

Drury and Redden are exactly why I can make this argument. Our cap is so screwed that we don't have any flexibility to be make these signings. that extra 500k is a lot and I feel Sather could have gotten a better value. Again, Shelley signs at 1.1 per. We liked him. How did we not resign him? It's like another poster said, Colton Orr situation all over again except instead of overpaying for Brashear we are overpaying for Boogaard. THANK GOD we can at least bury his contract if we need to. Think about this, what 4th liner gets paid that much money? For him to earn that money he's gonna have to goon it up all the time and turn into a phenomenal forechecker, shot blocker, and goalie screen. For that money I'm expecting 10 goals which I don't think he's capable of.

Please let him somehow get better.

It's XM and Sportsnet vs. everyone else, 3.6 v. 6.6. I'm inclined to believe the majority here.

You guys can look at this another way...

You have a superstar player Gaborik who I saw get pushed around a bit last season. Bringing in his old bodyguard may not be a bad move.

Have to keep your superstar goal scorer happy.

I really have no problem with the money if he comes as advertised, unlike Brash last year.

BUT !

I'm also convinced this is ALL about 'Dan Girardi just standing there'.

That one incident could hurt this franchise over and over again, much like Neil Smith thought getting tougher against the Flyers was the right way to go.

Some people on this baord are akin to high school girls they even complain about their popularity in the eyes of the rest of hockey hahaha.

Seriously 1.6 is really bad for 4 years but these are the types of contracts you should ******* up if any because they won't cripple a team.

I'm not loving it but i'm tempering my reaction. So many people overreact and make irrational points like "He scores no goals!!!!" He's the top guy in the league doing what he does. if you overpay a goon at least overpay for the best. He's not ancient like Brashear and Shelley which is also a huge plus. Between Shelley brashear and Boogaard guess what the highest goal scorer amongst them was... 5 goals. Shelley had like 2 all last season and I think they were in consecutive games with us. Trust me Boogaard's lack of goal scoring will not be a problem. neither will hugging people and being useless on the ice. (He can hit when he isn't fighting and clear the crease.)

I give the signing a C due to length and money. Overall a B+ FA so far for us.

I don't give a damn if he beats the crap out of every hockey payer in the entire eastern conference. He's not worth 1.65M. Not on his most glorious day. There are goons who can actually play hockey, that earn less than Boogaard. Terrible signing. Sather's a fool.

Mitch Fritz was 6'7" I think he played at least 1 game for us. Maybe it was only preseason...
