If Sutter does this and uses Jokinen as part of a trade then cool, if he signs Olli and does not trade then I assume the fire SUtter thread will be bumped lol

Why would Sutter sign an UFA only to trade him? If he did that, no UFA would want to sign with Calgary. You can say that the Senators traded Hossa after signing him to a contract, but Hossa was a RFA and he was signed just before his arbitration hearing. So the two cases are completely different.

In addition, Jokinen's agent would likely seek a NTC in the first year to prevent such a case from happening. If Jokinen wanted to go elsewhere, he would sign with another team.

Come on guys, this isn't NHL '10.

Yah I thought about it, there is no scenerio in which bringing Jokinen back would be good at any kind of money. Wtf is Sutter thinking?? This all better be some sort of sick joke. After how bad the first experiment went, and the leak to the media before he got traded, how could you think of bringing him back?

Olli doesn't make sense. it would leave us with too many 2nd-3rd line centers (Olli, Stajan, Backlund, and Langkow). My guess would be that Langkow and one of Stajan or Backlund are gone in a trade for a number one center. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense.

The only way it makes sense is if Langkow is gone.

You guys cannot be that naive to think Sutter is going to sign Jokinen just to trade him. It doesn't happen in the NHL and Sutter's reputation would be absolutely destroyed (he's already being humiliated, though). No player would want to sign with Calgary if Sutter does sign-and-trade an UFA.

This is a lose lose for Sutter if it happened. Sutter could sign him to 500k a season and some fans would want his head. From a PR standpoint alone this deal can't go through. And I'd rather Langkow over Jokinen any day of the week.
