Love it. Wanted him all along. We need another option for the pp on the blueline (especially when we deal Souray).

Well since my UFA acquisition wants that I was pushing for last off-season were Malhotra or Betts and Kurtis Foster.

I am pretty darn happy with this signing and the price is lower than I would have expected with his point totals from last season and the price of D men in general.

Though I do admit there is very little chance of Foster hitting 40 points again. But I like a lot of what he brings and the price is a very responsible signing IMO.

Pierre McGuire does not like this and he was the one that said Colby Armstrong could have been asking 4 million on the open market and 3 million is a nice price for him.

Come on Pierre. This is one of the reasons that people think your opinions are so out to lunch sometimes.

I'm usually the guy that stands up for not only Pierre but just about any media member that the board usually assumes is dumping on the city and the Oilers. But it is just in this case! What's his ******* deal?!?! This is a great signing and not in any way too much money! Under 2 mil a season for a guy that is 6'5, 230, a bomb from the point that helped produce 42 points last season. Not only that but listening to that interview the guy wants to be an Oiler and everyone agrees that he is one of the best guys in the game. There is nothing about this signing that I don't like and I can be pretty hard on my favourite team. Still moves to be made (more toughness in the bottom 6, trade Souray), but Tambellini is doing a great job this summer.

Comparing our D from the lowest point of last year until right now is scarey.

At one point we iced Chorney, Peckham, Staios, Strudwick, Garbagekov and Gilbert.

Only one guy still around and more moves to come.

No one can say Tambo is doing nothing anymore.

The interview with Foster on TSN was very awkward as well:

Q: I know you really wanted to sign with TB, what do you have to say about signing with EDM?

Q: What about going to a re-building team? I mean, I guess TB are re-building too, but they seem a little closer than EDM right now.

That's funny, because I'm pretty sure he isn't on Twitter.

New awkwardness record for McGuire. I do believe that was an actual nervous breakdown.

Well then. Let me fix that...

I just gave Pierre's now defunct Twitter account a piece of my mind.

Fixed.

I totally forgot about Aaron Johnson. I know that Tambellini likes Strudwick's positivity and leadership abilities but I really liked Johnson's game.

Great signing. Years and term length are perfect so great job Tambo. With the numbers the dmen got today getting a Dman at $1.8 mill that had 42 points is great. Hoping Kurtis can have a great stay here and hopefully his family issue dont become a problem eventhough what he went through is devestating.

Same here. I thought Johnson could be a younger version of Strudwick... in any case, I might be interested in Johnson still as a depth signing. He can play in the AHL and would be a superb call-up when injuries hit... but he might have better offers on the table elsewhere.

The "Taylor Hall Effect" starting already?

Foster admits the chance to play with Hall is exciting.

I like the Oilers D this year. Not flashy, but bigger and tougher. Pretty good balance too. If we could just subtract Souray and re add Visnovsky I'd be very happy.

He is not a big time bruiser physically. But I was surprised looking at his stats in 71 games he would have been our second most prolific hitter last season on D.

He is a big dude too. 6'5, 230 pounds.

Foster - 71 games played - 62 hits
Strudwick - 72 games played - 58 hits

In addition to the other reasons we brought him in. He replaces Strudwick's hitting. Which is funny since Strudwick is known as the rugged, hitting D man and Foster not as much.

Foster is on the Team right now. He said he grew up an Oiler fan and when he was in the AHL his shot was clocked in at 101.5 mph.

from the TEAM:

-lucky to have a team like Edmonton to want him
-gonna be a fun year
-showed everyone he could still play after breaking his leg
-glad to have been given a shot by Tocchet last year on PP
-had a little bit of interest elsewhere, but likes where the Oilers are going as a team with youth
-great opportunity, couldn't turn it down
-Tom and Ryan great NHL defensemen, looking forward to getting passes from them
-says he shot 101.5 in AHL all-star game, thinks he can shoot harder now
-not just a shooter, looks for pass as well

Sounds like a great guy!!

We don't even need to him to be physical. As long as he's not a complete push over down low he'll help.

No offense to Visnovsky, Grebeshkov, Gilbert and Chorney but sometimes it was just ugly behind the net.

Grebs might be a good move on a one year deal, if we can get him for cheap and have him be more of a third pairing guy.

How can someone say that paying Foster 150K more than Boogard is an overpayment and somehow not be joking? I'm very happy we added the RH shot on the PP too....the kid has a bomb...if your PP unit is whitney-foster-hemsky-hall-XX it will be a great combo off passers, shooters and guys with both RH + LH shots
