He will get more for Ehrhoff then he will for Bieksa. Both are UFA's next season, and someone has to go with Hamhuis on board.

People need to remember that a $4.5M contract now is actually a smaller percentage of our cap than the Mitchell deal was in 2006 (I think). It's not a bad signing at all. Assuming the cap continues to rise this will be quite a deal in 2-3 years as he enters his prime.

These deals pave the way for a reasonable Ehrhoff contract imo

At some point, the cap will stop rising. You already have packed Canadian buildings....the dollar has been hanging near par for a while now, and a lot of the American markets still have a lot of empty seats in the buildings even with cheap ticket prices. The reason the cap jumped this season was because the players exercised their option.

Leaving Bieksa and O'Brien out, a million-ish (counting Raymond at 2.75).

YES!

We got him. I'm very pleased. Long term top 4 D-man BC boy.

We added 3 solid North American players that address exactly what we needed.

I counted with O'Brien at $1.6, Raymond at $3.0, and Alberts still on the roster (but Bieksa gone), the Canucks have $800k to sign a 23rd roster player.

Anyone catch Dreger comment about the Canucks being the team to beat in the West? It was a little while ago. Ego boost.

If O'Brien's out, there are really no weak links left character-wise on the team. Going to be a fantastic room for young guys like Hodgson and Schroeder to come into.

This is a banner day for Canucks fans. With this signing, the Canucks are going to be the favorites to come out of the West.

Well, if you want to bet on Perrault beating out Hodgson for a job.
