4.25M is below what I thought he would get on the open market but 6 years is a long-term for a guy who's body could collapse at any moment
This guy is a machine though, he'll always give 110% and is an elite shotblocker and defensive defenseman. He won't bring any offense and isn't the best puckmover but he's damn near a second goalie out there, not that you'd need another with Brodeur
He's a legit top pairing defenseman, how Hamhuis got more money than him I'll never know. But I would worry about the term, it's pretty amazing he hasn't on IR for long periods of time with the way he plays the game. He'll often limp off the ice after blocking a slapshot or getting hit awkwardly and you'll be praying that it's nothing serious, and he's back next shift. An absolute warrior. He's just a pleasure to watch.
The years definitely worry me. With the way he plays, his body is going to break down. I know that he is fairly young but he already misses a bunch of games as it is. And another NTC? Not pleased with that.

Same with Zach Parise. I always think he's down for the count and he gets right back at it.
We basically traded Paul Martin Vs Volchenkov and Tallinder. Not a bad move but now Lou's top priorities should be Kovalchuk and adding a PMD.
I don't care if that PMD can't play defense all that well, we have the guys to back him up if he turns the puck over. I just want one of our d-men that has a offense first mentality cause as of now, our forwards are going to be pretty pissed cause they won't get tape to tape passes... instead, they'll have to grab pucks out of mid-air coming off the glass.
