Definitely not the type of veteran I was hoping for.

.900 career SV%. Good one, Joe. Better hope to Christ that last year wasn't an aberration.

The terms:
Quote:
Raycroft's contract includes the first year as a two-way deal worth $700,000 /$105,000 and the second year is a one-way deal worth $600,000.
That's not bad at all. If he sucks (read: reverts to previous form), they ship him through waivers then buy him out next summer. Hopefully it won't get to that level though.

Yeah.. it's not an overpayment at least this time. That makes it better.

Good signing. But, how did we end up paying our backup less than Burish?

Maybe Nieuwendyk was so desperate to see a new Stanley Cup ring in Dallas, but the Stars will never win, so he decided to overpay for the only Blackhawk who would sign?

The goalies around the NHL have not been signing for much. There an over-supply of them.

Because the alternative is an injury prone Krahn.

lol @ Theodore, Valiquette, Danis, Legace, and Grahame.

Hedberg already went to NJ so bang.

Lalime eh.

Nabokov is going to want over 2 million as suggest by his denial of the offer from Philly.

For the contract we got out of him, I see no problem with the deal.

Anyone else feel like they shouldn't have access to any sharp objects for at least a couple day? Value's there sure, but Raycroft... I just can't get close to excited about this one.

I'm not sure anyone is excited about it, but who else was out there that fit in the same or similar cost bracket?

I guess, it's just that I've been roaming around in a foreign (Quebec City, and I mean foreign) town all day. I completely forgot to look into the signing action, kinda like Quebec forgets to celebrate Canada Day.

I look at all the list of signings and see we get Burish and Raycroft. Just kinda tough to take thats all.

Pretty sure Emery's career is over.

Oh, so you had other, more important things to do. Aren't you special. I'm not even going to touch the separatist movement.

The only other real comparable, in terms of contract, was Martin Biron. He signed a two year deal with the NYR at $875k per. I would have preferred Biron, as I imagine most would have, but you know when the signing was announced? It was announced at 12:01 p.m. EST.

Other goalies signed (dollars in total salary):
Nittymaki (SJ): 2 yrs, $4 million
Auld (Mon): 1 year, $1 million
Ellis (TB): 2 yrs, $3 million
Curtis Sanford (Mon): doesn't matter
Mason (Atl): 2 yrs, $3.7 million
Hedberg (NJ): 1 year, $1.5 million

Other than Emery, who the Stars wouldn't touch due to character issues/concerns, there wasn't much out there by the time they signed Raycroft. All those signed goalies, listed in order by the way, were signed before Raycroft. I imagine Nieuwendyk would have hoped to wait a bit but was pushed into making a move.

That's also why I've written Turco is going to have a hell of a time finding a starting gig out there. In addition to the signings, Washington has announced it's going young in goal and not looking at signing anyone.

I think Turco will find a place to play. I go back to a year ago when Marty Biron was convinced he was worth 4 or 5 mill and turned down decent money from the Flyers (like around 2.5-3 mill I believe). Then he was passed on by everyone and had to go crawling to the Islanders for 1 mill.

Turco will find a place to play... If he wants to play, he will lower his salary demands enough that some team will offer him a contract at 1-2 mill.

I could see Nabby going to the KHL if nobody smartens up and offers him a contract. It's a joke that one of the top 5 goaltenders in the league over the last 5 years can't get a starting position.

And to be the third string goalie too.

I'm not suggesting Turco won't find a home, I'm sure he will eventually and if he wants it (he might retire), but he won't get that starting gig he so desperately wants unless he signs as a backup and beats out the other guy. He, or his agent, made a bone headed move by declining Philly's offer, and it's come back to bit him in the pad flap.

It's July 2 and there are still teams who will be looking for goaltending. I bet Turco will get a decent role at a decent wage. It could have been him not biting yesterday more than teams not offering.

Very surprised at him turning down Philly. Good defense, just lost in the cup finals without too many team changes so far this off season. Really surprised.
