Islanders need to hit minimum cap

The Islanders are approx $ 14 M short of hitting the minimum cap of $ 43.4 M. If we package Hamrlik with a Maxwell and//or Weber - could we bring back Mark Streit? While we wouldn't increase their cap dramatically since Streit is making $ 4.1 M, we would be adding approx $ 3 M to their payroll. They are in obvious rebuild mode around Tavares so losing Streit wouldn't kill them and Hamrlik would be a one year thing anyway for them. Just a thought but I always liked Streit and there's no denying the great power play we had when he was in our line up...the NHL is all about special teams now so you can never have enough horses on the powerplay.

They need more than 3 million. Just give them Hammer for nothing.

Because I don;t think they're that stupid. You got to throw in some young talent they can build around. My proposal gives them young talent and raises their cap by approx $ 3 M. They can't get to the minimum cap just by taking on salary - rumor is they're close to signing Lombardi so that will be another step to the minimum cap - baby steps.

We have young scorers who will not break our lineup but who could interest a lower-spending team.

How about: Hamrlik plus Trotter in return for a fourth round draft choice plus a player they don't want at minimum salary who can be waived.

Send a message via MSN to Joey
if they need cap, dump hamrlik (sweeten it with a prospect or pick), sign belanger and frolov...or kovalchuk!!

Markov-O'Byrne
Spacek-Subban
Gill-Gorges

Carle/Weber

Still good

But depth at D is good as well. So... meh. I trust the guys in charge to do what they think is the safest and smartest thing to do going forward

EDIT: But if they sign Lombardi, Frolov, and Kubina then they get to the floor while becoming more competitive. Probably the smarter option in their regard

if they are trying to hit the cap floor, i can't see them trading away their highest paid player (after dipietro), can you?

but they could be a good dance partner to help us shed some contracts and make room for frolov (i'd say kovalchuk, but that's a pipe dream)

to NYI
Spacek (3.8)
A.Kost (3.25)

to Mtl
Bergenheim (RFA- 925k last year)
Gervais (740K)
2nd rd pick 2011

then we have room to sign Frolov...

Cammy-Pleks-Frolov
Pouliot- Gomez- Gionta
Bergenheim- Eller- Pyatt
Moen- Boyd- Lapierre
(Darche/MaxPac/White/Desharnais)

Markov- Subban
Hamrlik- O'Byrne
Gill- Gorges
Gervais

Price
Auld

i could live with that... slight upgrade from last season

What makes you think a team would be interested in Maxwell?

I don't get it, if they want to hit the minimum... they can just SIGN UFA(S) to a one year deal.

Now that is a bizarre proposal. Why include a player they don't want and who we don't want but could waive. That is a negative asset (in other words, a liability) from our point of view. So are you saying that Trotter and Hamrlik are worth less than a 4th round pick? Do you know the percentage of 4th round picks that ever amount to anything?

I would prefer to keep both our players if that is the payback.

Well unless Montreal wants to create Cap space to sign another Forward they don't have to trade Hamrlik now. They have 5.6 Million to sign Carey, Lapierre and another bottom 6 (Probably going White imo).

Unless they pick some poor schmuck who is worth $1M and announce that he won the lottery and will get $5M for one year, most guys actually WORTH big money want term.

I guess there are the Kariyas of this world, but they don't usually want to go to rebuilding teams.

Getting Hamrlik for one year at $5.5M is like signing a free agent for one year, if you think about it, but without the acrimonious negotiation first. Of course, Hammer would have to have the Islanders on his list.........
