Well , with Hamhuis and Ballard in , Bieksa is likely the odd man out. TSN yesterday said he'd get quite the return.. What kind if package would your team offer for him ?

I would consider him a less mobile Ballard.

Canucks paid Grabner, Bernier and 25th overall pick for Ballard.

I would suspect it would be a $1.5 mil or so 3rd line winger, Ok prospect and maybe 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Or 3rd or 4th line winger + decent prospect or higher pick.

Types of deals I would suspect.

Decent defenseman - but really injury prone - decreases his value significantly.

The thing is he's not "injury prone" like a Salo is injury prone... he just had two freak accidents where his leg was sliced by a skate... I don't know how that makes you more injury prone by having terrible luck.

Since he's UFA at the end of the year, it probably doesn't open up a lot of options for RFA-eligible or longer-term signed guys. Something in the neighborhood of a low 2nd or high 3rd rounder and maybe some salary coming back in the likes of a mid-line forward.

The Sharks should put in a substantial offer...but with the way the Canucks are stacked up this year, nad the fact that they only need to get a 3rd line winger or two out of the trade, I bet they pick a destination based on not sending Bieksa so a rival team.

My bet: New York Islanders for Trent Hunter+...

I'd actually be in the minority of Tampa fans I think, but i'd love him here.

james murphy of NESN posted on his twitter that Bieksa is being linked to the bruins as well, maybe the deal would go like this?

To Canucks
Michael Ryder
Brad Marchand
2011 2nd round pick

To Bruins
Kevin Bieksa
Depth forward or draft pick?

Thoughts?

Look at his career history - the last time he played a full season was in 2006.

SJ can offer Torrey Mitchell, Derek Joslin, and a 2nd under those conditions.

Bieksa will come back next season and put up 40+ points.. Quote me now. His **** ups this season are a result of the freak calf injury (skate cut) that he had.

I don't understand how Bieksa is injury prone either. Bieksa has had two serious and rather freak injuries.. 2 skate cuts to the calf.. That's like getting struck by lightning twice haha.

Anyways, all I want for Bieksa is a quality 3rd line LW. Someone big, gritty, and can put up about 30-40 pts; if we can score a pick on top of that all the better.

No chance. He was the centerpiece in their trade with the Hawks. Not to say Atlanta wouldn't want Bieksa but not foir Buff and the Canucks won't want as much salary back. That makes him a tough guy to get top value for. The good thing for them is that the FA binge on D is pretty much over. They are still not dealing from a position of strength as Souray is now out there free of charge and Kaberle will be dealt to someone but the FA well is pretty much dry.

I like him a lot more than most of the FAs that have been signed and in 06 and 08 he was a solid top pairing guy. They just need a trading partner that feels he is still that guy. Without considering the return, Washington seems like a very good fit.

any of our bottom 6, besides umberger, and a pick...

would prefer clark being the one leaving, but would be fine with whoever.

Why on Earth do we need Ryder? Only reason we're looking to deal Bieksa is because of cap, so you give us more cap back?

The Canucks lineup currently looks like this IMO:

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Raymond(RFA)-Kesler-Samuelsson
-Malhotra-Hansen
- -Oreskovich/Rypien

Hamhuis-Ehrhoff
Edler-Ballard
O'Brien(RFA)-Salo

Luongo
Schneider

Bieksa needs to be dealt, and we still need some quality bottom 6 players.

A good deal for Bieksa IMO would feature a quality 3rd line winger with toughness, a good 4th liner, and a pick/prospect.

Keep in mind they must be cheap.

I like and would do that trade, however it doesn't fall in line with Gillis's new expectations of our 3rd line. Mitchell is too small.

If I'm the Rangers I'd offer up Gilroy plus Washington's 2nd next year. Saves VAN 2 mill and they have a youngish dman with some upside to explore.

Do we have a bidding war? I like the Sharks bid the best, Mitchell is a useful player that can kill penalties and replaces Rypien at center.

not a bad offer... Mitchell could fill in the 4th line for the Canucks (though he's expensive for that role)... no need for Joslin... the Canucks already have enough young dmen that will be looking for icetime in Manitoba, and Joslin doesn't really add anything.

Mitchell and 2nd is a solid offer though.

My bet aswell

The Islanders will also pick up Souray off waivers and sign Lombardi/Frolov
