Wow. I'm a little stunned, and I can't wait to see what happens now.

Crazy idea, but if any team can afford it, it's us.
I could definitely see the Leafs being interested if the cap space works (after trading Kaberle, maybe?). Souray fits the Burke mould to a tee.

His salary is much lower than his cap hit, I could see cap floor teams being interested.

Maybe on re-entry. Right now his cap hit is way too much for us, and trying to stay in the race for Kovalchuk we can't take that on.

Yep. He'll be an Islander, only because his cap hit helps us reach the cap floor since every big UFA shunned us yesterday

Oiler fans were asking for Jack Johnson+ at the deadline last season while he was sidelined with injury. Pretty crazy that he would just be waived for free, but I would assume that the Oilers offered him up around the league multiple times without any bites to come to this conclusion. Will be interesting to see how things turn out. The Kings may actually be a player for him, though I hope not. But he fits Dean's M.O. (grizzled veteran coming off of injury and a lackluster season), the cap hit is excessive though - but the term is reasonable - he would get picked off of re-entry for certain though, probably by a team much higher in the selection process than the Kings though.

It's a terrible contract. I guess once he gets waived and probably bought out, he'll go somewhere for like 2 to 3 mil.

Told Sheldon Souray will not be bought out if he clears. He is owed 4.5M per for 2 more years. His cap hit is 5.4M-Kyper

I think Souray gets claimed or Tambellini has something up his sleeves.

Putting him on waivers makes sense but putting him on waivers July 2nd is a pretty strange move. Something is up.

More of a bad idea than a crazy one. Not only does that rob the team of cap space for the next 2 offseasons, but you expect the Leafs to pay 9 mil so that Souray/Finger can play the first pairing on the Marlies?

Alright, I'll meet you half way and call it a crazy bad idea.

It's after the free buyout period, I doubt Tambellini is stupid enough to do that now.

It's pretty simple. If he gets picked up, fantastic. If not? Souray gets some egg on his face and maybe there's a suitor on re-entry.

Pretty much no team can take that contract without moving a contract out first.

Almost all the defensemen that signed yesterday signed for 5 million or less. Souray is not better than Martin, Hamhuis, etc.

They're obviously trying to give him away. But if he's going to sign a contract with Edmonton and say he doesn't want to play for Edmonton 1/2 into his contract then this is the course of action we'll be taking.

If someone claims him, awesome.

If not he's either getting bought out or brought back up via re-entry waivers.
