You see, with somebody like Souray, it is always the fault of others. Incompetent management bungling his trade and driving off suitors. Incompetent team staff messing up the hotels, meals, workouts, etc.

In his mind, he has arrived at the pinnacle of human accomplishment, and nobody else around him is good enough ...
While I agree with some of your statements, I still see it that the management has (had?) rather a questionable competency level.

Sure, of course. So he's just stating facts right?

Unfortunately, Red Deer Rebel is correct here. Souray's not a regular dude. He's a complete jerk-off to his teammates, coaches and managers. Perhaps he's a regular dude away from the rink, but at his job he exemplifies "bad co-worker" in spades.

Hey man, you're entitled to your opinion for sure. As am I.

I'm not totally convinced that he's as bad a 'co-worker' as being described.

I know several people who have met Souray away from the rink. They gush about his approachability, kindness, patience, openness.

I know a couple of people inside the org, who have more than enough contact for their liking. They have not one good thing to say.

I guess it all depends on what affects your opinion.

Cheers.

I have a friend who interacts with many oilers and other nhlers and he has Souray near the bottom of all players he has dealt with

one thing's for sure.

the more time he spends on waivers/minors, the more interesting this story is going to get.

can't wait for the trade/assignment.

Make an example, and use good asset management by putting him in the ECHL.
Teams will warm up to a trade halfway through the season when they see that this time the Oilers are not going to simply give away an asset. Also, we don't want him in the minors bad-mouthing the organization to guys like Omark, Petry, etc...

I find it interesting that you say this. From what I was told, Souray was not a problem at all in the locker room last year. I remember posting (last year) that Moreau was a problem in terms of dividing, but that Souray was a loner who essentially kept to himself.

I like the idea of sending Big $hot to the ECHL. Let the world revolve around him there and besides after all Stockton is closer to Los Angeles. Maybe he can learn to fly a helicopter and commute back and forth. Neither will happen but it is fun to dream.

The Oil paid this guy a fortune when allegedly no one else would step up to the table for an injury prone $hooter. The payback was apparently an uber back biting complainer festering with a misplaced sense of entitlement and me first priviledges than an NHL job offers. Old time NHL union warriors like Ted Lindsay and Carl Brewer who fought the war for fair salary and player's rights in all likelihood could not fathom the sorry sniping this guy has done after taking more than $15 MILLION from his employer. Say it ain't so Ted ... greed and selfishness is sadly alive and well in today's NHL. Just no longer exclusive domain of its ownership cartel.

Who cares, just keep this selfish, self proclaimed 'professional' away from a young, impressionable NHL roster.

You guys do realize if you put him in the ECHL then you might as well cut the cord on trading him. No team will take a guy whose been playing in the ECHL to start the season. I think he won't convince Omark and Petry to be bad, after all, these guys are 20 and over, not 8.

We just saw a mid twenty year old former high draft pick in one of the best drafts in thirty years traded for a mid first round pick and a puck moving defenseman. Nathan Horton has plenty of skill and young enough to fulfil his potential. Unfortunately, many hockey insiders suggest his downfall came in falling under the wing and bad influence of Olli Jokinen.

Bad character and selfish behavior can poison a team environment. Exhibit A is the Edmonton Oilers' last season. Oil management recognized this and have been sweeping out those players who have lost their way or don't mirror the positive behavior needed to right the S.S. Titanic. Souray's true character has come out and it is simply time to move him on. Unfortunately, the market has spoken and there is not alot of demand for big ticket, brittle dman who bites the hand that has paid him a fortune.

My ECHL comments were just ***** and giggles. But sadly, the Souray yard sale is finding no takers and sadly that is no joke (or Jokinen for that matter).

Even if you can assign him to the ECHL, you don't do it unless you want to start making enemies in the NHLPA. It's a d!ck move and no good, long term, can come of it.

So what do you do? If the AHL is the only other option, I'd say buy him out. Katz has enough vested interest in the whole situation, as well as him being an uber fan, to realize this....cut the losses
