Who is supposed to score goals ????
We can't win every game 1-0
Well, strictly speaking, yes. But the issues we had with 5-on-5 scoring probably had just as much to do with lack of a decent puck-moving defenseman outside of Doughty and Johnson.

Our team zone rating is horrendous. Even if we add a decent winger, if they are spending all their time between our zone and neutral ice, our 5-on-5 offense is going to continue to suck.

We'll get more bang for our buck getting a decent outlet passing defenseman than getting a scoring winger. That's why Martin, Michalek, and Hamhuis would have been so attractive, and why I wouldn't mind Kaberle one bit (depending on the price of course).

You must be watching different games and have access to different statistics than I do.

Gagne might make sense. Is this a contract year for him?

Hopefully Dean will negotiate an extension before making any trade for Gagne. No point in giving up assets for a 1 year player.

Yup and if you look at the UFA LW's next summer he will test the market. He could be THE guy if he produces like he did a few years ago and he has the tools to do that with Philly. I don't think Gagne waives his NTC. I still think Paul Kariya is a good Plan D behind Marleau, Kovalchuk and Ray Whitney. There don't seem to be any rumors about this guy so he may have to take a deep discount to play in the right situation for him. Kariya/Smyth isn't a bad 1-2 punch on left wing but if you pair him with Williams the Kings will be a tad small. I know everybody hates Kariya cause Tinkerbell used to tap him on the shoulder when he scored a goal but I've fogiven him.

Ah, yes lets make Kovalchuk the highest paid player in the NHL! Kovalchuk or bust! How many contending teams have a winger eating up 8+ in cap space? I'll wait...

There are some rumblings here in the Philly area that Simon has played his last game as a Flyer and that LA may be one of the teams showing interest in him. I was just wondering if there were any rumors on your end about that. I would hate to see him move on but I know the flyers brass really has their eye on some of your players.

You are far too young to understand the concept of long term fans waiting . . . and waiting . . . and waiting . . . for nothing to happen but the same old song and dance!

Free agency has never been about getting deals on players. AND IT NEVER WILL BE. Its a tool for PLAYERS to be able, after paying their dues, to get THEIR PAYCHECK. The owners bargained for it, and agreed to its terms in the current CBA, which they got by closing the league down for an entire year!

DL has a reputation of being fiscally conservative. Talking about using free agency to get players generally means an understadning that you wil have to overpay to get what you want. He had no problem over paying bridge players, and if you tell me Rob Blake got 6MM and Ryan Smyth gets 6.5MM but Kovy's not worth 8MM then you need a lesson in economics, worth and value. Now, with the best player to hit the free agent market in years, DL wants to ask for a discount??? This is exactly why I find it hard at times to believe what he says, when it doesnt jibe with what he does. If he wanted Martin he should have offered more. Maybe he did, but we dont know. But for all his talk about using free agency, his pen is still full of ink and the tip remains dry. I'm refraining from using the word I've used all too much previously, but he told us something we all wanted to hear prior to July 1, and so far the results have been less than expected. And dont begin to tell me about efforts: results and effort are two entirely different things.

They got 6 mill short term. Kovy wants 9+ long term which is overpayment for a 1 dimensional winger. I've still yet to see a team built around a winger go deep into the playoffs. How many teams contend after landing the big piece in FA? I'll wait, again.

No i watched the same games.
Was always the same........ 0-1 after 1,5 minuten playing time...
55 minutes of nothing and 5 minutes playing real hockey to even the match.
We had a great defense....
the real problem is 5vs5... if we score first we can dominate a game.
For that we need a new coach and a game breaking winger

But i want a one dimensional winger damn it...........
just a guy who knows what a puck is and where to put.

Why isn't someone complaining about having just one dimensional players on the roster ??????
Everyone know how to go backwards but nobody knows what to do to score....
that is same bad than one dimensonal forwar players.

You will keep waiting: waiting for this team to take the next step.

Remind me again who just won the cup and acquired , arguably, the premier free agent winger available last off-season?

And remind me what team acquired that same winger the year before to try to win the cup?

Andf the year before that?

And as for your one-dimensional player garbage, I seem to recall you placing that label on another player much discussed ont his board previously. That same guy that was so one dimensional he LEAD THE PLAYOFFS IN GOAL SCORING, although he played seven less games than the other guys. maybe the pucks just glanced off his stick from great set-upsd from Ignila (oops he didnt play with him during this playoffs)
If scoring goals in gobbs is one-dimensional, then thats the dimension we should be focusing on with our 5 on 5 scoring woes.

But if you think Kovy is really one-dimensional, WHY AM I EVEN ARGUING WITH YOU?

Like Momma always said, you cant win an argument with an . . . do I need to spell it out?

Our biggest need remains a puck moving Dman. Paying 9+ for Kovalchuk would set this team back into the black hole in no time. Thankfully DL is running the show and won't overpay for the overrated, greedy. Scott Hartnell was great in the playoffs and will likely be the guy DL ends up with...
