Its proving time for both of them. I think its a smart move to be honest. See what the kids have this year, and pay them appropriately next year.

Would have preferred a longer deal for Lundin.

Lundin is a UFA next season though isnt he??

Really would have preferred a 2/3 year contract with him.

I wonder if Purcell will be able to stick with the Lightning for a full season.

Depends who he gets put with, if he is put on a line with Vinny then yes as those two showed remarkable chemistry in the short time they spent together which is even weirder considering Vinny only clicks with certain players for one reason or another.

If he is put in the bottom 6 then I doubt it, he is much too soft to play in the bottom six.

I remember a few seasons ago people ragging on Moulson and saying he would never make it in the NHL and raving about Purcell now it looks like the Tables have turned. Should be interesting. I would have gave Lundin a few more years but again I'm not in that position.

Top 4 dman, logged 22 minutes a night on the Lightnings blueline last season. Looked very solid on a poor Lightning blueline. Him, Ohlund and Hedman were the only players worth watching on Tampas blueline last season.

I was impressed with Lundin in the games I watched of Tampa last year. Good signing, although I'm sure they would have preffered to lock him up longer.

Don't know much about Purcell...

Then you must not know as much about hockey as you think.

Teddy is a great guy. I liked him as a person. However I like a lot of people, that can't play hockey in the NHL. I hope he can turn it araound this year.

He showed last year with TB that he can play hockey in the NHL. It's just undecided if he can be consistent.

I wonder why Purcell, who were tearing the AHL a few years ago, cannot translate his game to the NHL level? As said earlier in the thread, it is his year to breakout. Back in 2007-08, I saw him as a potential second liner, now, meh.

EDIT : thanks for infos on Lundin!

Purcell is a talented player with good hands. Is also weak defensively with a below average defensive game. Is very much like Brandon Bochenski or Brett Sterling. Too good for the AHL, not good enough to stick as a top 6 guy in the NHL. European money will come calling and he'll carve out a nice career for himself playing a game we all pay to play.

Just don't see Teddy sticking as a NHL regular.
