Never thought I'd see the day where we sacrificed Simon Gagne for Jody Shelley and Michael Leighton.

What if it's Simon Gagne for a 1st round draft pick and Nabokov.

Or Simon Gagne for Vokoun.

I think we are mostly fine with this if it is for someone good... but what we don't want this to be is a salary dump.

Meh, I'm sure Shelley can step into the 1st line LW spot and the team won't miss a beat.

It's been 10 years. I'm fairly certain he's the longest tenured Philadelphia athlete. Anyone know?

Currently, he is. I think it's close between him and Jimmy Rollins, though I'm not sure. I think Rollins was drafted in 96 or 97 so maybe he has the edge.

From: http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/team/player2.html

" Currently tied with Donovan McNabb and the Flyers' Simon Gagne as the third-longest tenured athlete in Philadelphia, behind Brian Dawkins and William Thomas "

Gags and Akers both debuted in '99 for Philly.

He is (was McNabb before he got traded to the Skins). Simon has been here since the start of the 1999 season.

I think a 1st rounder or 2nd rounder, depending on whether he signs long-term with the team involved, a round-out-your-top-9-type winger, and a solid defensive prospect is fair value for Gagne. And send him west.

Emotions be damned, this is a capped sport now. Chris Therien and Keith Jones are still with us.

This is ****ing ********. For an organization that treats its players well, this is a boneheaded move (if anything happens). I'll always be a Flyers fan, but at this point, Gagne IS a Flyer and belongs on the team. Regardless of what we get back, from a sentimental standpoint I won't be happy at all. ****!

I haven't been this nervous since game 6, and this might end just as badly.

This thread is the reason why Eklund is so popular.

True or not, his rumors can manipulate the emotions of an entire fan community.

I would save the outrage for the announcement of actual news, not innuendo.

don't be mislead by the Eklund prefix, this has been confirmed (Simon being asked to waive his NTC) by Lebrun and others
