That sucks. I know he really wanted to come here but I guess we just don't have the money. He would have been a great fit.

meh, I would of like him on our team definitely fits our team style imo. But theres really no room for him at centre. I really think will get a top 6 forward through trade.

Looks like our centers are:

Gomez
Plekanec
Eller
Boyd

With Lappy available to play C if there is an injury.

We still have no idea how's Eller progression. We could have totally started him on the 4th and have Lombardi center the 3rd line. Then you use Eller on the PP and on the wings. The idea is to ice the best team possible.

Lombardi fits our team PERFECTLY. If we don't feel the need of having bigger guys up front, might as well continue the trend with speed and skill. That's Lombardi.

Saddest news of this UFA period to me.

For 3.5M, I'm glad we didn't sign him. I wanted him, but not at that price. Mind you if we wouldn't have signed Pleks to that ridiculous contract, I'd have been all for it.

Who would you rather have at the same money: Lombardi or A. Kost?

I'm taking Lombardi 10 times out of 10.

Agreed, however we would have both if we signed Lombardi. It's not like we could have magically made A Kost disappear. Besides, there may be some other irons in the fire we don't know about.

3.5 mil per is a decent contract. I'm surprised there hasn't been some huge over payments yet. (Safe for Boogard of course)

I thought he'd get 4M to be honest. Not that I think he deserves it, but it's the free market. I think he's a good deal at 3.5M, good for the preds, complete player. Would have looked good in a Habs uniform but not at that price tag.

If A. Kost wasn't so limited in hockey intelligence it wouldn't be so bad. I can deal with a goal scorer who goes through dry spells, but AK looks lost on the ice when he's not scoring. I prefer a guy like Pouliot who can be thrown into a different role when he's having trouble finding the back of the net.

AK has so much talent and potential and yet he still can't grasp the concept of dumping the puck in so his line can change.

As for your question, I think it's a valid one at this point. For so long I've been expecting AK to breakout, but the more time passes the more I come to realize that may never happen. That blank stare he has plastered on his face whenever the camera is on him is no coincidence, the guy has the hockey IQ of a sack of potatoes.

At this point I think I would prefer a player with less potential, but one that's more intelligent and will give a more consistent effort in both the offensive and defensive zone.

3.5 million for a 3rd line centre, I don't think so.

He is top 6 in Nashville, he wouldn't have been in Montreal. Domenic Moore is very similar and half the price.

The real question would be:

Scott Gomez at 8 millions/year or Matthew Lombardi at 3.5 Millions/year ?!

For the same kind of production, Lombardi win this by a lanslide !!

At least, Sergei Kostitsyn has now a new centerman that will fit his game in Nashville

Are you even a habs fan Erika? You've been trashing the team for 3-4 years now...

Well, the Preds line up will looks like that :
Sullivan-Lombardi-Erat
Radulov-Legwand-Hornqvist
Kostitsyn-Goc-Ward
Tootoo-SmithsonWilson

So i don't think Kosty numbers would incredibly increase ! BTW the Preds will have one hell of a team !
