That top six would be splendid if the game of hockey were played without any boards and the other team never possessed the puck.

He's not bad on the PK (at least on the national team).

i dont see why people are *****ing. if burke can land him it is going to be for a short term deal with a minimal caphit. im thinking a one or two year deal and at $1.5-2 tops.

Well said.

This would be an interesting option, but we already have Grabovski, Versteeg, and Kessel that all like to hold onto the puck. Throw Maxim into the mix, and we have very few distributors and very little size outside of Kulemin.

Not really a team first guy. Wears his mirror sunglasses with the mirrors on the inside

I'm not sure why you'd sign this guy, and not even consider Frolov.

Why?

Burke needs to land a center. The Buds center depth 1-4 is easily the worst in the entire NHL and if Burke doesn't improve it he will hand Boston another franchise player.

we've got 2 centers who qualify as top-6 guys, but only 1 left winger who comes close to that. Need more left wingers

Depending on which Afinogenov shows up.

I highly doubt Maxim signs for less than 2 million per after a 24 goal season.

I'm guessing $$. Frolov probably wants a long term deal, more money than he's worth, and some type of ntc. That's what happens when you've got a UFA class as bad as this one.

Honestly...if he ccan come at a discount... it wouldn't be the worst thing ever.... he did score 24 goals and put up 37 assists last year.... if its under $3m, the leafs could realistically still have space for one more LW....and run 3 solid lines.

You'd obviously have to play the (Bela)Russians together... if anything for entertainment value.

____ - Bozak - Kessel
Kulemin - Grabovkski - Afinogenov
Versteeg - Morrison/UFA - Armstrong
Sjostrom - Hanson - Orr

The only people happy about this would be the people of Buffalo. They'd be laughing at Toronto all year long.

Seriously though, what a disaster he would be in Toronto. People already have the pitchforks out for Mikhail Grabovski despite him scoring twenty goals as a rookie. Afinogenov would get boo'ed before October 15th.

yea, I'd rather grab Poni, that way we have 1 big guy on both lines. While they're not especially big, Bozak and Versteeg have no problem using what size they have.

If Afinogenov is in the top six this year, the Leafs miss the playoffs again. I can't believe Burke would seriously consider this. It's crap like this that makes me really hate the decision not to rebuild properly with the draft. Does anybody think we'll build a real contender with signings like this?

God, I hope this doesn't happen.

That would be one of the worst top sixes in the league. They'd finish 25th or lower. And with the size, you can bet they'd be pushed around and somebody there would get seriously hurt and miss 20-30 games.

@ Leafs fans calling him a 'solid option' on the 2nd line.

He's a freaking star 1st liner for you guys.

considering the way poni was treated some nights, it boggled my mind why we even traded for him. i like afinogenov too much to see him go thru the same thing.
