Assistant Coach Candidates

I didn't see any recent threads about our need for an asst. coach or any suggestions. So I will make a thread for people to talk about who they want/think will be hired for the job. I personally have no idea who will be offered the job but whoever it is, hopefully they can turn the PP around. Rossi said today that Shero and the gang will look into this next week.

Thoughts on who Yeos replacement is?

The ducks hired Niedermayer as a special assistant to groom Fowler.

Rick Tocchet, Paul Coffey, and Kjell Samuelsson come to mind.

I think we need a coach for the defensemen... Cause we invested a lot in defensemen so... It would be smart... Larry Robinson would be great but he won't come here... We could try to lure Boughner and Ulf Samuelsson here... Marc Bergevin... Kevin Hatcher... Craig Ludwig... Craig Muni... Uwe Krupp...

I think Boughner would be a nice idea, but I'm not sure he wants to leave a pretty good situation in Windsor. Maybe, I guess.

Tocchet might be the best option out there right now. Hitchcock is available; so is Pat Quinn. They might be too restrictive, though.

Paul Coffey instantly comes to mind. Especially considering how GoGo has struggled (similar to Coffey's rookie season) in the transition, even though they obviously are on different planets when it comes to skill level. Plus I'm pretty sure he knows a thing or two about a powerplay.

As it stands right now with Shero delegating the responsibility of hiring an assistant coach to Bylsma, I just don't think we're going to be pleased with the results. My bet it'll be someone just like him.

So.... the man who picked Alex Daigle first overall while in Ottawa (getting fired as a GM after two years) and was a full blown disaster also as a GM in Florida (where he didn't last a season)... that's someone we want?

That sounds less than wonderful to me.

Just wanted to clarify for everyone that this is for the SCOUTING STAFF, not assistant coach

In his defense, Daigle was a consensus #1. If he didn't pick him, it would've blown up in his face

I want Coffey since he's obviously very offensive-minded. Rick Tocchet is a bad ass... But I'm not sure about hiring him. He seems to coach toughness and a pretty conservative style of play. Not sure he's really a good fit to coach the PP etc.

Not surprised Sexton has been brought on board. He and Shero are tight.

I don't think Paul Coffey is into coaching at all. He's never done it at any level AFAIK. I'd love to get Bob Boughner but I doubt he's leaving Windsor anytime soon, and then only for a head coaching offer.
