Gonchar to Columbus

Columbus needs a real number one pucking moving Dman. Ottawa is looking to trade away their expensive veterans for young prospects and picks so that they can rebuild.

Do we have a fit here? What would it take to get Gonchar to Columbus? Could they even afford to give up the assets?

I think we'd love to have Gonchar, but the extra two years on his contact are prohibitive. The only way I think we could have a deal is to send Commodore back, which isn't obviously something Ottawa would have any interest in.

Value wise, I could see something based around Gonchar for Klesla, Chris Clark and a decent prospect (Holden or Ruth perhaps). Gonchar is obviously worth more than that skill wise, but the contact is a major negative.

Don't think there's a fit.

Don't think anyone will trade for Gonchar's contract

That being said, if there's anyone who has cap space and needs a puck moving Dman it's CBJ

Plus, he's a big name player and he could potentially bring in some other players just from his name alone.

I don't think they'd do the deal this year but next year maybe.

I think Gonchar would be a good addition for the Jackets, but we'd need to move a defenseman out in order to bring one in.

the sens brought him in, because they believe in him 100%.

the team has an of year, so they decide to rebuild. But iŽam 100% sure, that they build with gonchar, because he is a high skilled guy and a locker room presence to young players!

Or someone will overpay for him!

We have a bunch of young d-men coming up. You need a veteran to mentor youngsters in a rebuild.

Boston could have interest with Savard likely on the shelf for the foreseeable future that opens up cap. something like Stuart, 2nd and a decent prospect

He might want to GTFO a rebuilding program. Hasn't exactly made the best first impression here, he isn't deeply rooted here. I guess it'll cut down the possibilities but I'd say there aren't any possibilities out there anyways for a guy with a 5.5 cap hit.

I don't see it. Gonchar's contract would be crippling for Boston the next 2 years, and basically eliminate any chances they have to make other moves

We'd probably have to add a draft pick, but I'd go for that as a base, as that covers the salary issues and addresses team needs (PMD for us, top 6 offense for them). The value's a little lopsided, tho.

Or would Ottawa fans be willing to do Huselius + Hejda for Gonchar and call it a day? You'd essentially be getting a Volchenkov back for at least 'till the end of the season.

im sold on most of these offers from columbus fans.....(except commo lol) im sure we can find a cheaper veteran defenceman as a mentor as for the NTC....im pretty sure the paper said he was unhappy but if he choses to want to stay than that alone convinces me to want him because than i would think hes only here to help

I just can't imagine Columbus having a lot of interest in Gonchar. His game has slipped terribly this year and his contract is difficult for any team to swallow. He has value and would probably help Columbus some in the short term, but his cost combined with declining skills make him an unlikely trade target.

I don't think it particularly likely myself, but, hey, what the heck.

No one takes Gonchar... this year at least. He should be a REAL mentor to the young defensemen and step his play up. But until that happens, his value is next to nothing to other teams. Maybe next year we can start this thread up again.
