I see him and Connolly having a similar skill set.

If this is a prelude to a Connolly trade, I have zero problem with signing Zherdev.

But he ins't a center. So if Connolly got traded we would have a hole in our top 6 at center.

With Ruff as his coach, you may as well piss the 4mil down the drain...he'll never get the ice time or support he needs to be successful here.

Oh, agreed. Just saying that Connolly and Zherdev have similar skill sets.

Plus, everything out there seems to indicate Ennis staying at center. Trading Connolly this offseason and signing Nik would pretty much force Ennis to stay at the pivot.......

well if you fill the team up with enough skill players and subtract as many adam mairs as you can from the lineup ruff will ultimately be handcuffed and be forced to give skill players ice time lol.

From 2005-2007 Max got the same minutes that Zherdev averages.

Unless they believe Ennis is ready to play center. Not sure why they would think that, but I'm not running the organization. I generally agree that we have too much money already tied up on the wings. On the other hand, he would infuse more talent into the top-6. If he was willing to come here on a two-year deal for around $3.8 per season, I'd think long and hard about it. Couple that signing with a trade for a guy like Clowe (centered around Stafford and one of Sekera/Butler), and the top-6 looks more formidable.

Also, this should give people an idea of what he may be asking:

Quote:
Zherdev was awarded a one-year, $3.9 million contract following his hearing on Friday. He was reportedly looking for $4.75 million, while the Rangers were offering less than $3.2 million.

pleassse. This sound slike the type of move Darcy would pull. Not the actual guy Zherdev, but just to keep his options open and think, Who else is still out there. Idk if that makes any sense or not.

Ugh, I HAte getting hopes up!

Who cares about the end, that doesnt mean it will end the same with Zherdev. The facts are that yes Max and Ruff didnt get along at the end, but Max did once lead us in scoring. So its not like Ruff got nothing out of Max.

I am willing to bet Darcy made an offer, but probably its the only offer he will make. Zherdev's agent is porbably trying to see if he can get a better one.

Get Zherdev and then a Stafford trade could happen? Maybe thats part of the Kaberle deal but Darcy wants a RW 1st, Darcy did try and sign 2 top 6 forwards in free agency already but failed, Zherdev would be the 3rd attempt at a top 6.

If they do sign him, that's likely the end of the Stafford Era in Buffalo. The Paille/MacArthur/Stafford clique will have been disgarded.

July 4th weekend is when Darcy likes to work. Haven't most of his big moves lately been made around July 4th?

if we somehow ended up with zherdev and kaberle i would flip.

I dont even know if it is really possible. we'd prob end up right under the cap.

yea he usually vacations from july 6th to about july 5th every year, doing minor work at the draft and appearances on shopp and the bulldog

ill say this though. if darcy lands this guy, i would at least give him credit for trying at this point.

They would have room, we would increase our payroll by like 4 million if they trade Stafford.

Then Connolly is a UFA next year so that comes off the books, Ennis should be projected to fill that roll. Kaberle also may only be a 1 year thing. If Darcy plays his cards right we can make 1 serious run at a cup next year.

And to be honest with you, if Darcy did make 1 serious run at a cup and we didnt win it, I wont be upset with Darcy.

Keep in mind that both Rivet and Monty come off the books next season. I'd be more than willing to throw that combined $5+ mil at Kaberle.

Signing Zherdev ($3.75m) and acquiring Kaberle ($4.25), but losing Stafford and one of Butler/Sekera would be a net $5.1-$5.3 gain on the cap. We'd still have enough space to sign the two remaining important RFA's (Kaleta, Kennedy) and make a couple cheap depth signings.

Where's the set up deal that moves Regier for a GM that might even think about such moves?
