Bieksa To Washington Capitals

To Washington
Kevin Bieksa

To Vancouver
Eric Fehr
Washington 3nd rnd pick 2011 (conditional to a 2nd rnd pick if Bieksa signs long term)

Washington probably has one of the weakest D-core in the league. They currently have 5 guys signed ( Green, Poti, ERskine, Carlsson, Sloan) Alzner will probably make the team and Schultz will get re-signed. Howver this D-core still cant match up to Philly's or Pittsburgh's defence. 1 way to upgradre the defence is to trade a top end guy like Semin and fetch a high profile player such as a Kaberle or Markov. However I think this proposal will help Washington without having to give up an explosive young player like Semin.

Bieksa will instantly add Puck Movement, Grit and Toughness to the team (youtube Bieksa vs Richards), something that the Caps have wanted to improve for a while. Although offence from the back-end isnt really needed with Green and Carlsson, Bieksa will legitimately have a good chance at putting up 40 or more points with this Caps team at a salary friendly 3.7 mil for one more year.

The Canucks will get Eric Fehr, a Big Body (6'4 210lbs) responsible two way player who can put the puck in the net. Fehr is an RFA and coming of a career high of 21goals will probably demand a raise of somewhere between 1.4-1.75mil/year. This will give the Canucks some room on the cap. Although Fehr has never lived up to his eye popping 109 goals and 195 pts in 142 games with Brandon, he has become a solid reliable 2 way player and would unite a strong 3rd line for the Canucks.

Malhotra-Hodgson-Fehr

Too lopsided in favor of Vancouver imo.

Maybe drop the pick to just a straight up deal.

since when in hockey is a top 4 Dman worth less than a 3rd line winger?

I don't think Caps are interested in moving Fehr, especially not for Bieksa.

look at the market..

what did Ballard fetch?

Vancouvers 2nd best prospect (according to Hockey Futures)
3rd line winger Steve Bernier
1st rnd pick!!

now im not saying Ballard and Bieksa are comparable but they arent that far off either...

Bieksa is Bigger
Bieksa has a better cap hit
Ballard's top 2 career high is 39 and 34 pts/ Bieksa's top 2 career high is 42 and 43 pts..
Ballard is a better 2way all around defenceman
Bieksa has a sligh edge on toughness
Ballard is a better puck mover..

I definitely think Ballard is a better player but not enough where the formula of the market value is that significantly differnet.

Not sure whats worst with this proposal.

The overrating of Bieksa or the underrating of Fehr.

Either way Washington laughs

If Fehr wasn't so injury prone, MG would be all over this, as I believe MG mentioned he liked a then unknown Fehr before.

how am i under-rating Fehr? he is fetching a top 4 dman...

and what am i exactly under-rating?

Eric Fehr has never finished an entire season, his career high is 39 pts, previous to that is 25 pts. His best stat is +18 ....what exactly do you think Fehr would demand that is higher than a top 4 dman?

Fehr for Bieksa is probably a non-starter from the Caps.

Now, if you want Fleischmann...

How about the Caps give you Flash and you give us nothing?

Sounds fair to me.

Also, Fehr plays what? 12 minutes a night and puts up good numbers. No way Caps get rid of him.

I like that actually. Chimera would be a great addition.

I really don't want Bieksa. Especially if we gotta give up Chimera. Even though he has hands of stone he can skate and forecheck like hell. GMGM has gone insane. Give up Steckel not Chimera.

Bieksa can score 40 points, has a right handed shot and can kick ass. There's a reason there's so many teams are interested in him while Kaberle sits on the shelf.

No offense I really don't care if Bieksa can put up those kind of numbers. Green can double that, I'm sure Carlson will be able to be in that sort of neighborhood this year. He's a useful player but its something about his face that annoys me so much.

And its the fact that the Caps will give up Chimera that makes me mad.

Bieksa's defense is sketchy and he has durability concerns, he's not what Washington needs

Doubt there is anything good Bieksa will fetch and Burke is just waiting it out until he receives a good offer for Kaberle - its not a bad idea but I hope he doesnt wait too long.

Fehr is finally starting to play solid hockey and score more goals. His health is better than it has been since he turned pro and he may be about to blossom into the scorer GMGM thought he was going to be. Plus he's cheap.

His value to the CAPS is far higher than his actual trade value. Plus GMGM loves the guy.

I honestly think GMGM is gonna let Alzner and Carlson have a go at it and see if they can handle it before making any move to shore things up.

I tend to agree. Washington needs a shutdown defender. Bieksa is a puck mover with some grit. Doesn't seem like a good fit.

Chimera's a nice player, but not really a good linemate for Hodgson next season. It might drive the poor guy to drink setting up chance after chance only to be flubbed again and again by Malhotra and Chimera.

Bustafsson? hmmph. I really see that kid becoming a gritty 3rd/4th line kind of guy if he pans out.

If you give us Cody Hodgson the Caps will consider the trade?

gmgm won't trade prospects if he thinks will be a valuable to the team some day down the road. But interesting non the less
