MoJo scored, our 2C slot has finally been filled. Sorry Flash. Joking aside i bet its a relief for the more offensive players to get a token goal in camp.

I know he will probably get stuck at LW come the regular season, and then everyone will wonder why he cant score. I would rather throw him to the wolves and start learning how to win faceoffs from day 1, and learn the NHL C positioning Bruce wants from him. The longer we wait to get him learning draws, the longer it will take for him to hit fiddy %.

Someone that was there can make corrections, but I think this was the line-up today...with some long shifts not always taking notes, etc., sometimes the lines are hard to pick out

I'm not as sure about the Group A (red forward groupings.) The big change was Galiev to center and switching lines with Bruess...the MacLeod C Mitchell line was effective both days, with Bruess yesterday and Galiev today.

The lines for scrimmage 2:

Group A (Red)
DeSimone Kutnetsov de Kastrozza
Cullen Gustafsson SDR
Woods Eakin Wiles
Forfar Hauswirth Cherniwchan (also saw Cullen with these guys)

Finley Orlov
Yadlowski Flemming
Jank Carrier
Bond Ruel

Group B (White)
Burt Johansson Bruess
MacLeod Galiev Mitchell
Burke Herbert Pisano
Alexander Miele LeFrancois

Davis Wey
Spinell Sotnieks
Lowery Stevenson
Cullity

edit: added Red/White designation

Mojo will be fine offensively. Just stick him on the 4th line on Thanksgiving and wait for the magic.

sk8, those lines look right. Though French must have made Boudreau proud with his juggling throughout.

Day after Thanksgiving. Against the Flyers. Thus began probably the happiest stretch of hockey for a lot of Caps fans -certainly for me.

That game in particular was just a great time for me. Slept in, trudged through the cold to a warm friendly bar, and enjoyed the hell of a Friday afternoon.

Bruce worked that game perfectly. Forgot about Backstrom, moved him off of wing, penciled him into the 4C slot, the C spot with the least pressure, all something poor ole Hanlon dared not to do, even though Backstrom remained scoreless and Hanlon was about to go jobless, the team in last place. Come OT, Bruce pits OV and Nick together 4 on 4, Nick pots his first, and the rest is history. What a great run we went on that year, we had to win every game we did and stole a playoff spot and first on basically the last day of the year.

Hanlon deserves some credit for making it so easy for Bruce to figure out what to do. I believe Bruce will remember re: his potential future handling of Marcus.

Nicklas Bäckström was a clear cut 1st line centre while playing at Brynäs in Sweden, while MoJo split time between 4th ( last year) and 3rd + 2nd this season. So they dont really have the same starting point at all. Its not "fair" to compare these 2 at all just yet.

Last 2 seasons in sweden:

Bäckström 46 games 26 points , 45 games 40 points
Mojo 45 games 10 points , 42 games 20 points

No one is seriously expecting Mojo to be anywhere near the player Backstrom was or is. I just enjoy the weirdness of drafting Swedish centers in the first round for three consecutive years.

It's fair to compare the two, since we're doing it in the context of how each has looked at their first development camp in NA. We're seeing the same 'issues' with Johansson that we saw from Backstrom - passive offensive play and general lack of comfort with the up-tempo style.

Basically, we're saying that if Backstrom looked just as unimpressive, why should we worry about Johansson?

Just trying to point out that Johansson had somewhat of a more defensive role in big parts of the last 2 seasons.

Fair enough. I pointed out earlier that he certainly looks drilled in the defensive aspects, and plays accordingly. His aggressiveness offensively will emerge, especially when he's playing with better players.

Agree, maybe he will do well with Semin & Laich on the 2nd? Exciting combo.

Atta boy Holtby. Too bad nowadays goalies have to "stick" up for themselves. I guess thats what happens when your goalie is also your toughest player for many years (Kolzig). I still cant believe Kunitz +√'d Varly in the head and no one did anything about it. G play is such a huge part of a teams success specifically in the post season. And Varly crumbled in game 7 related or not. These vicious plays take their toll I can only assume.

Interesting to see that sort of play from Kuznetsov though. Highly skilled russians for the most part seem to pretty clean players. I dont mind him hitting a goalie or trash talking, but do think he needs to be reminded which teams to do it to.

Feistyness from a fancy first round Russian and a goalie prospect on the same play? I love it!

Considering play went on and the goal counted… A Caps player probably would have got 2+5+Game for trying to stick up for Varly.
