Dunn with the updates..... special teams it was

Also an interview will be on SC radio at 4:30 (MN) - KVSCHockey Dan Dunn join's @KVSC881FM's Zack Fisch on HSF w/ interview from @washcaps Development Camp. Tune in at 4:30 PM on 88.1 FM or KVSC.org

washcaps - twitter

"Lots to tweet about today. We woke up for 730am breakfast and headed over to the rink for warm up and video. -Dan Dunn"

"Then we had a pretty good practice working on the penalty kill. At the end we had a 14 puck shootout."

"I think I am officially 0 for 3 against Holts in that game Maybe next year I can play against someone else for once! -Dan Dunn"

"After the bag skate (for the losing team only) we threw on our workout clothes really quick and got on a bus."

"We went to a track outside and did some plyo work and weighted sprints with Jack and Mark."

"The workout wasn't that bad it was just the sun beating down that was the killer. - Dan Dunn"

Wow, I know a year or two ago they did the track work earlier in the morning...can't believe they did that late morning in this heat.

SDR is awesome. With any luck, we'll be able to look back at the 2008 draft as a massive success for Washington.

Jury's still out on Gus, but we're looking good thus far.

the fight (poor quality): http://yfrog.com/6bhzlz

from Corey at CSN:

http://www.csnwashington.com/07/16/1...10&feedID=5139

Quote:
Johansson was not a consensus first-round pick by the scouting agencies and draft preview magazines. The Class of 2009 was loaded with premium talent from Sweden, but the Capitals pegged Johansson at No. 24 – ahead of some of his other highly-ranked countrymen.

It is not like the Capitals were alone in their assessment – McPhee said Detroit GM Ken Holland told him later that evening that Johansson was going to be the Red Wings’ pick at No. 29 were he available.

Anton Gustafsson just walked to the locker room carrying an ice bag and a look of disgust here at #Caps development camp.

If the body can't take it, it can't. Nothing against the kid personally.

Did Gustaffson have injury issues when he was drafted? I had faith he'd get through injuries like Fehr, but I'm losing it if this is a bad injury.

Yes he had back problems, part of the reason teams shied away from him. Even before this camp he said something about testing out his back with hard skating (or something like that) which alarmed me.

Here's an article when he was drafted. Some info on his injuries pre draft. http:///www.washingtontimes.com/news...afsson/?page=3

I was at the game, in fact I'm typing this while in the car coming home from Kettler (don't worry, the wife's driving), and Gus showed me absolutely nothing before the injury. He literally had no redeeming qualities that I could see. He isn't a great skater, speed or agility wise, he isn't physical, and he isn't really skilled. I hope that he turns it around, but I don't see it right now.

Kuznetsov had a lousy game. You could see the skill that the kid possesses, but he was pretty much mentally out of the game by the middle of the second period. He sulked quite a bit after whistles.

Orlov can REALLY shoot the puck. He skates well, although he takes himself out of position defensively going for the big hit too often.

Johansson was the best player on the ice I thought. He had numerous scoring chances and was very sound defensively.

Eakin was Eakin. Fast and dynamic.

Galiev was ok. He does seem to have problems finishing after putting himself into great positions with his skill though.

Nice observations. Who do you think is the most NHL ready (other than Johansson) based on what you saw?

Eakin I guess. His speed would stand out even in the NHL. Orlov would be the next closest imo, but they both need more seasoning IMO.

There was a heck of a lot of talent on the ice today, but there weren't any NHL ready players other than Johansson I thought.Johansson was really solid today, and looked far more polished and responsible than anyone else on the ice.

Well at least a hip flexor is a new injury for Gustafsson. I'd be more concerned if it was a recurrence of one of his old issues.

I want to see how many AHL games he is able to play this year and how he performs in those games before I am going to start drawing any conclusions about him as a player. I think we all saw with Fehr how injuries can make a young player look like a bust very early so I am going to give Gustafsson more time also.

I'm not 100% convinced Fehr has completely put his injury troubles behind him. I sure hope so.

I was there, and if you weren't there before 9:30, you weren't going to see anything. The crowds were just insane. People were tailgating in the parking garage, which I heard filled up. I saw about half the first period craning my neck over people, then hit up the equipment sale and went to brunch with my mother and sister.

Hip flexor injuries are usually related with bad backs.
