Tarik has the coaches talking up Eakin as the first group's best player.

For those who are/were there this morning, can you give a quick overview of a couple players who stood out and a couple who looked overmatched? Do you agree that Eakin looked good Strungout? Sorry- I have to live vicariously since I'm stuck at work.

I think he just quoteth the Twitter.

Makes sense, though. Eakin's probably the most NHL-ready of that group, certainly as far as polish goes.

I take it Eakin was playing LW with DeSimone centering him and Kuznetsov was playing center?

A line with Eakin, DeSimone and Kuznetsov? They're all at least listed as centers...who was actually centering that line? Is that the plan with Squeaks? To play him at LW?

Yes, I was upstairs. Sorry I missed the post, I had to step out early.

Finley was show quite a bit of truculence this morning. Fun to watch.

At one point between drills, it sounded like Boudreau was ribbing the elder Woods about the aforementioned hit.

Eakin and Kuznetsov were both playing center.

There's only so much you can take from the drills, but a few observations I had:

-Kuznetsov is skilled, as advertised. I mentioned the snipe of the corner before, but he also seems to have an affinity for saucer passes.

-Joe Finley is HUGE (and mean).

-Eakin's speed and work rate really stand out. Probably why the coaches love him. It's a shame he has to go back to Juniors, he'd be a perfect Hershey player.

-We saw it last year, but Orlov's got a bomb from the point. It's consistently low and hard, and would probably be the best slapper right now on the Caps' defense.

No doubt. Considering Hershey called him back for some games in the playoffs after he had already been sent home and Hershey were sitting a bunch of forwards at that point.

Thanks NBTW...I appreciate the info. Why is it that Eakin has to go back to Juniors? I hadn't heard that before...

That's part of the September camp, not the July camp.

Players drafted out of the CHL can't play in the AHL unless they turn 20 by Dec 31 of that season. Eakin's too young, so he's back to jrs if [when] he doesn't make the NHL team.

Its a nice problem to be so stacked at center and goalie with prospects... Future looks bright.

One thing that's probably not that big of a deal, but I liked to see: Kuznetsov and Orlov were standing closest to the white board as Boudreau went over just about every drill. On several occasions, after Boudreau was done and skated away, the pair stayed at the board, and you could see the two of them were trying to figure things out/clarify things. Nice to see that they cared enough to do that.

Seriously...hogtie Orlov in the parking lot...have his agent get the KHL buy out done...sign the entry level deal right there in the garage...cut the rope...continue with camp.

thanks for the time info SK8.

+1 on "retaining" Orlov. He impressed me in last years camp and think he will again this year.

yes, it's shameless self-promotion but for those who have used my calendar in the past, you will know it's far more complete than the ones on caps.com.
