The longer this drags out, the more I think Kovalchuk goes to the KHL. He doesn't like the offer from the Kings. If the Islanders did really offer him 10 years $100 million, he doesn't want to play for them. The Flyers, Devils, and Rangers cannot give him anywhere near $9 million, let a lone $10 million a year. St. Louis and Colorado say they are out.

Yep. This is the Kings posturing.
Surely they're still engaged.

not only that, but in addition to money, it will cost us assest as well.

Kovy at 9-10 million and keeping assets is better than Richards at 7+ million and parting with assets.

And what asset would we be keeping? We would have to dump someone's salary to sign Kovalchuk.

$100 million. Kings feel they have made biggest offer they can without jeopardizing Drew Doughty and Jack Johnson extensions.

Yep. More proof of Kovalchuk's greediness.

Dumping Redden.

He's no where near being considered an "asset".

I'm not for trade for Richards, but the Rangers will never be able to give Kovalchuk $9 or $10 million. They would have to find a way to trade Redden, Voros, Rissmiller, and Brashear. That's pretty much impossible to do so.

Still not enough money after Staal and Girardi are signed. Plus we are after Guerin apparently too. Kovy wont be a Ranger.

I had a dream that the Islanders offered Ilya Kovalchuk 10 years/100 million before that news broke. My dream also had Kovalchuk taking that offer. Oh well... at the least it would bring some life back to the Rangers/Islanders rivalry...

I knew this guy was gonna want 10 million for ten years, I just knew it. Why would the Islanders be on this after the whole Yashin thing? Dont they learn thier lesson?

Screw Guerin.

We currently have $7.8 million open... I'd still go after Kovy for $8 mill a year - let's say he takes it. Re-sign Staal & Girardi for a total of $7.5 million.

That's $15.5 million for three.

Drop Redden to the minors. Trade Dubinsky for a 2nd round pick (too much value?). That clears about $8.3 million. Then we add McDonagh to our blueline.

Only if it was this easy, right... I hope I got my fantasy down correctly - money wise.

IF we were to somehow sign Illya I feel at this point it would be a one year deal ala Hossa. He might look at that if he can't get the long term deal he wants during the next week. This is the only way I see us being able to get him, atleast a realistic way.

I think the problem the Rangers have is that they can't clear Redden's salary until the start of training camp. If they signed Kovy now, they'd open themselves up to a lot of teams trying to put offer sheets on their RFAs.

Would be awesome if Slats could work out a deal with Kovy and get him to wait until training camp but I really really doubt that happens. I'm guessing hes gonna sign with the Devils. If he wants to sign with the Islanders I don't see why he didn't just stay in Atlanta other than perhaps being concerned about that franchise moving. Then again, the Islanders are in the same boat.

Maybe. I dunno if his pride would allow him to eventually sign a one-year deal after holding out for money, or whatever it is, because he thinks he doesn't deserve that and he'll realize he'll look like a complete ******* (which he is already doing).

I haven't seen anything, but, being unbiased here, I still think he wants to play for the Rangers.

Two other thoughts...

1.) He's acting like a dick to LA because he doesn't want to go to the west.

2.) He won't go to either of the two 2nd fiddle teams in the New York Area when you have the Rangers there.

But who am I.

The Rangers wouldn't trade Dubinsky for Heatley or Kessel. Do you really think they are going to trade him for a 2nd round pick? Really?

At what contract? I'd offer 8M but not a cent more. Seems like he's not looking to take so "little".

I'm pretty sure Boston wanted Dubinsky and Girardi + for Kessel, not 100% sure.

Where is Rangersboy when you need him he can always find those old news articles lol
