And Gagme's free crutches for life contract condition would still have to be covered by the fliers so bonus there.

HA!

That was funny.

When you think about it though only in a sad sort of way but it still made me laugh.

I can see us having a great regular season and all of the apologists saying things like "bet yall feel pretty stu stu stu stupid right about now for bein a critical against our roster" and then two weeks before the playoffs Smyth does his regular injury dance causing a tidal wave of injuries to Williams, then Gagme and then cause and effect steps in and we somehow end up with Andy Murray as our coach.

Can you imagine the potential man hours lost to injury time we could have with Williams, Smyth AND Gagme on our top 6?

The totals could be staggering.

Sign him DL!

I'd prefer Gagne over Semin if we are talking just for next season, as I think Gagne would be cheaper (asset wise) to acquire, be easier to resign if needed and would be someone I'd expect more from in the post-season.

If we are talking long-term with a contract extension, then I'd discuss Semin, but the assets to get him may be to great.

Holding out hope that a top free agent will sign with the Kings next summer is just an awful idea right now. Really poor timing.

Someone on the boards pointed out to me that there are really no good UFA next year as snipers go. Chara however is another story.

Is there a list of UFA for next year. Or is it the RFA this year either way is there a list to see who is available.

According to NHLnumbers next summer you have Gagne and Semin UFA LWers. But, it says re-signed next to Semins name, maybe one of the capologists can clear that up. On D you have Chara (don't get me started on holding out hope that he signs with LA THIS TIME), Markov, McCabe and Kaberle. Take note that all those guys play on the East Coast and probably hate the beach and sunshine and lowball offers. Then in 2012 you have Ryan Smyth, Dustin Penner and Sean Avery the cream of the crop on LW.

You obviously re-sign him. What do you think it's going to cost? 2 decent prospects and what is hopefully a late 1st doesn't seem like much.

No room for Gagne now that we're back in the Kovy sweeps SF! Time to get on board while there's still time. It's a Festivus miracle!

I've said all along I'd take Kovalchuk but it has to be at a certain price. 7 years at 7.5 or so and I'll be happy unless Kovy sucks it up.

You may think you understand the game on the ice, but have just showed you have no understanding of the finanacial game off it.

I understand that players get more through UFA but if Kovy really wants to be a King, he will sign for said offer. He shouldn't be paid anywhere close to Ovechkin, Crosby, or Malkin and there are several others I'd rather have for the similar coin.

Going to cost too much, Dean will lowball him and we will lose him to FA.

No where in my post did I say I was holding out hope for a UFA to sign with us next year. I simply comment on an extension for Gagne or Semin if we traded for them.

I wouldn't pay any more than 8.5 per for him, and ideally 7.5 like SFKingshomer said. I understand you can only pay so much before you have to worry about paying otehrs and we have a lot of kids to pay more too in the near future, including Doughty.

Unfortunately Chara's already working on an extension with the Bruins. I think he'll be locked up on a retirement deal.

I beg to differ with you. What is he 27? Entering the prime of his career and this very well could be his last contract in the NHL. The guy is a stud. It is going to cost 8.5 per year and up to land him.

How can we (the Flyers) get Wayne Simmonds?

As for Gagne, if it's a move to make cap room, the return isn't going to be equivalent in terms of talent. That said, Gagne, when healthy (and, yes, that's become his bugaboo), is still a 30 goal scorer, 60-70 point player, and an elite defensive forward. He'd be an excellent addition to your team and locker room and bring loads of playoff experience. The guy's a total class act and someone I wish could remain a Flyer for the duration of his career.

It wouldn't surprise me if the return is something along the lines of Parse, a prospect, and something like a 2nd round pick.

Perhaps we won't have to give anything up for Gagné??

Dreger's Twitter:

Some NHL execs think Philly will place Gagne on waivers, if a trade isn't found very soon.
