UFC 116 - Lesnar vs Carwin

Well, this is it folks. For me, it's the biggest summer event this year and I'm definitely pumped for it.

4xl gloves vs 4xl gloves. Doesn't get any bigger than this. And it is for the #1 heavyweight title. Fire away Fedor fans.

I'm sort of a casual fan but I will be watching at my buddy's house tonight... how is Lesnar's chin these days, can he survive?

Never really been tested. Carwin's punching power is unparalleled so it won't really tell us anything about Lesnar's chin. Lesnar will look to have top control and Carwin will look for the stand up.

We are talking about mammoths here. It's all about power for these two. Almost zero chance it goes to a decision. Fireworks and I can't wait.

I'll bite. Lesnar definitely has tools to beat anyone. I just don't get how you can say it's easy to pick a winner here. They are tailor made to beat one another. It's about as even as you can get.

Explain your reasoning, I'm curious.

Your summer must be boring if this is the highlight event of it.

I've lost a lot of interest in the UFC. It's become way too commercial and with the amount of talent available, I find most of his PPVs to be uninteresting.

Lesnar vs Carwin. Fine..Two huge bodies hopefully fighting stand up until one is KOd. This could possibly be a complete snoozefest. If they decide to play on the ground it could be very boring, especially if little ground and pound is done.

The rest of the line up, mainly fighters that became ''popular'' being going on their reality tv show. As good as some of them might be, most of them suck big ass and had they not made the show, they'd probably be fighting in another league.

Lesnar chin is still untested. We saw a small sample of it in the second Mir fight when Mir rushed in at the start of the 2nd and caught Brock with a short elbow and 2 knees but that's about it. Brock was slightly dazed by those but not fully rocked.

That said, even if his chin ends up being decent/good Brock simply cannot let Carwin land one of those bombs clean or he's going to sleep. You can have the best chin in the world but those refrigerator hands that Carwin has will KTFO anybody if they land flush. Carwin is arguably the hardest puncher in all of MMA even if his technique is sloppy and very basic.

Brock need to bring the fight to the ground ASAP and then control Carwin with his wrestling and test his cardio/gass him out. He should not try to trade with Carwin in any way , shape or form . He also must be very careful of any cage clinching as Carwin as shown in the Mir fight that he can be very dangerous from there with his dirty boxing. Just stay on the outside and wait for an opportunity to shoot.

This is quite an intriguing fight and i can see it go both ways. If i had to bet it would probably be on Brock but i wouldn't feel too comfortable about it.

------------------- Carwin Lesnar
- Stand-up----------X
- GnP--------------------------X
- Wrestling---------------------X
- Clinch-------------X
- Stamina-----------X----------X
- Experience---------X
- Jiujitsu------------N/A--------N/A

With that in mind if you are Carwin you want this to be a stand-up fight AKA Couture style dirty but efficient. With Lesnar he as to use his speed to get the takedown and from there use his strength to GnP him to victory. But my money is on Carwin winning by TKO because he as the advantage that the fight start on your feet.

No real argument, simply wishful thinking/hoping.

Baseball I used to watch but the Expos left so that pretty much ended my love affair with that sport.
F1 and golf I don't care for so it leaves pretty much MMA as the sole sporting events I follow in the summer.

So, you're gonna watch UFC 116 or not?

Yeah, watching it for sure. If it's better than the last event, I'll be damn impressed... 115 had a great fights top to bottom (114 on the other hand sucked balls).

It's too bad Wanderlei had to pull out; it will also be interesting to see Leben stepping in only two weeks after his last fight.

I have a broken collarbone, so ya, watching TV is all I can really do.

I think it's a complete toss up between Lesnar/Carwin.

People say Lesnar has never faced an opponent that resembled his size and power. Well, the same can be said about Carwin.
Lesnar is a tiny bit taller, might be a little heavier and have a slight advantage in the reach (not sure), but they're pretty much the same size.
I think it will come down to the one landing the first true power shot. So really, it's 50-50 for me.

As for the rest of the line up, I don't care for any fights. I hope Akiyama wins because I just don't like Leben.
I'd like you to explain to me how come Lytle and Bonnar are still fighting in the UFC. Not only that, but they're part of the main card...Pathetic.

I'm fairly certain that one of them has even bigger hands and is a 5xl...

Carwin wears 5xl in sparring but UFC gloves only come in max 4xl so he has to cut part of the glove during his fights. I'm not sure why the UFC hasnt custom made him a few pairs yet....

I thought they had started making them for him, but I guess "custom" was a loose term.

That picture is disturbing.

Lesnar wears 4XL and Carwin 5XL. I'm pretty he has them custom made now?
