Kovalchuk re-signs with New Jersey

New York Post reporting Kovvy to Devils for $60 M over 7 years. Still not confirmed.
BTW NJ has 3,5M in cap space so they'd be 5M above the cap.

No they didn't. They said that the Devils have the "inside track."

The Devils are trying or going to have to clear cap space.

Well, he's in the right place if he wants to become a better overall player/team player, I wonder if that'll pan out, if he won't find the NJ system too stiffling in the long run.

From what I've been reading, the Devils are looking to implement a more offensive style with Maclean as their new coach.

if this is true, i don't mind.
Overall I think any team that locks up so much money and cap space on just one player is hurting itself. Lou will have to sell off some assets on the team just to get under the cap. not just cheap guys, sine he needs to go and get 5+million he will have to sell off some important stuff.

Considering their history, I don't blame you for having doubts.

Isn't the New York Post Murdoch's, who has a regional media war in NY with Steinbrenner's YES network and the rights for the Yankees games?

I had a dream last night we traded Spacek to Detroit for a pick and Trevor Timmins (of all people) came out and said we were actively targeting Kovalchuk and that there was a strong possibility he would sign here.
It was weird.

Wouldn't we need to trade AK too?
Yes, it was a dream.
