Mathias Brunet

For those of you who are Quebeçois, or simply bilingual, what do you think of this journalist. To me he has to be one of the most level headed journalists in all the media. I also like Dave Stubbs for his peering deeper into the player, but M. Brunet just seems to speak with a level head, and calm that so rarely is displayed by the rest of the journalists in the city, be they Anglos or Francos.

Brunet wins my vote for the most sensible reporter in the city writing on the Habs.

He has a nice article about Ryan McDonagh today, but is sure to point out the pros and cons of both sides.

he is also my favorite journalist that work in the french media. Danny Dube is also really good but he is working on the radio at ckac.

Mathias Brunet is known to be very well inform about prospect, trade and rumors. On his blog with cyberpresse, he write like 2-3 times a day.

proud to read him and not they others jackass

As far as I'm concerned, Marc-Antoine Godin and him are pretty much the only "real" journalist in Quebec.
Most of the other ones writing on RDS, Cyberpresse, Rue Frontenac or else always display some sort of homerism and let subjectivity take too big a part in their writing.

These two guys are hockey fans and always looks at situations from all angles while giving an objective point of view.

Still, Mathias is a notch above and is the one guy I truly respect and read on a daily basis.

Mathias, MAG, and Dany Dubé. The only 3 journalists/commentators that I can stand in this city. They are in a class apart.

Mathias' article bashing RIS at the draft was epic

Flynn
Therrien

He writes about hockey, not trying to bring useless controversy, that's what they all should do.

As far as I'm concerned, Mathias Brunet, Marc-Antoine Godin and Jean-François Bégin are the best sports journalists in Quebec. Stubbs is great too, but those three are above everybody else IMO.

If I want facts, I'll read Brunet or Godin. Opinions, I like Mike Boone.

If I want to laugh at the stupidity of what I'm hearing/reading, then Therrien, Flynn or Rejean Tremblay.

Most people who write or talk about sport are not journalists. Mathias Brunet and Jean-Francois Bégin are the best of their class, and two of the few who can call themselves sport journalists. Godin and Labbé are losing more and more of my respect, as they fell in that "showbizz" humor comments class of reporters (i.e. when they bring hypothesis instead of trying to get the real answers).

An example from Godin here. After Lemaire announced his retirement, he commented the situation by saying it was probably because of the poor performance from the NJD during the playoffs, etc.... Well, the thruth is that Lemaire had taken his decision to leave the boat during the last Christmas break. If he had asked Lemaire about it, he would have told him the truth. This example is not spectacular, but it's one of the few where I had more infos than the people whose job is to get those facts.

M Brunet-- hands down best journalist covering Habs; one of best journalists covering hockey. He reminds me of Bob Mackenzie a bit-- slow and steady (in a great way), immune to all the reactionary BS (english or french). CBC should put him on hotstove.

Him, Dube and MAG are the best in the francophone media, hands down.

Edit: And Martin McGuire, of course.

Marc De Foy, like many Quebecois covering pro hockey, is completely out of touch with how hockey is being played today, and with the rest of the NHL, IMO.

I think that some of you have a short memory. While I enjoy most of what Brunet is producing these days, he has been a s*hit disturber on many occasions over the years. Several non-issues escalated ridiculously out of proportions because of Brunet and La Presse- the Kovalev interview (and the "tapes") is one example. Wasn't Brunet involved with the mafia having infiltrated the Habs story?

Nope, the mafia story was covered by Patrick Lagacé.

I gotta agree that although Brunet is one of of best journalists covering hockey, the Hossa gloves story and the Kovalev tapes story tarnish his resumé a little bit.
