Offseason Rant Thread (Post Your Rants Here)

I'm finding myself questioning whether Dean can get us over the hump. Sharks fired Lombardi for a reason and we're starting to question the same **** the Shark fans were questioning at the end of Dean's tenure. If we don't make the playoffs this season, maybe it's time to move on and get someone else in there that can do a better job attracting free agents, rather than low balling them and making excuses to the fans "it has to be the right fit, not the right price, not the right time" bs.

Discuss.

Remove the criticism from the thread title. Not much of a discussion if everyone is just going to ***** about Dean.

Seriously?! The guy has done nothing to improve this damn team in the sense of adding key pieces and or making this team get better and getting us in the play-offs again. He's been doing his job and this team HAS GOTTEN BETTER. Now were all butt hurt that we didn't get a one dimensional player in FA. Crap's sake.

Im feeling pretty bitter about losing Kovalchuck, But Dean not overpaying one player 17% of our cap is a good thing.

If you're referring to Kovi as being "one-dimensional" you are horribly mistaken. Dean has done a good job up to this point, I would like to know the full story of what really happened before I formulate my opinion about him.

DL does not deserve this, Kovy asked for too much and kovy wants too much attention. Not a DL guy whatsoever. DL did the right move. DL has done whatever he could IMO.

I'm reserving my judgment of DL to see:

- the full detailed report of what went down with this Kovalchuk thing
- other moves he may or may not make after Kovalchuk officially signs elsewhere
- a full report of July 1st, the Martin non-signing, and failing to get us a defenseman

I'm a Lombardi supporter but I'm very upset with how the Kovalchuk thing turned out.

This is about to be year 5 of the "rebuild". Dean does a great job of building a franchise from scratch, he has shown that with the Sharks and Kings. No doubt about his GMing in that area. The questions I have about Dean is whether or not Dean is the guy to get us where we want to go, where we've been wanting to go for almost 50 years.

I am fine with the Kings passing on Kovy, but now we are a bit late into the free agency period. Most of the good FA's are gone, and some servicable scraps left now. It's not a guarantee that we make the playoffs, and I fear with the lack of movement and upgrades, we will regress this coming season. Given the fact we stumbled bad at the end of last year and into the playoffs. I don't want to become the Blue Jackets picking in the top 10 every year and once making the playoffs.

I'll save any remaining criticism I have for when the opening night lineup is.......

Smyth-Kopitar-Williams
Parse-Stoll-Brown
Richardson-Handzus-Simmonds
Clifford-Schenn-Westgarth
Clune

Doughty-Scuds
JJ-Hickey
Greene-Voynov
Drewiske

Quick
Bernier

And left with $10M in cap space. FAIL!

Joe Thornton would have never been a Shark if Dean was still there. Yes the guy can build a team, but he's proved in the past he can't take that next step. Frustrating

Yeah I can see why you are...I am a little more peeved now looking at Handzus 4 million dollar cap hit, Smyth's 6 mill cap hit, Stoll making 3.5 million.

Remains to be seen if these guys get traded soon or what but I don't like these contracts now.

Holy crap, Kovi hasn't signed any contract yet (officially) and we're already this far down Dean's throat. Lets just wait and see what develops.

Isn't Joe the reason Sharks use for their playoff failures?

WHY is Parse always on a line higher than Richardson?

Flip it if that makes you happy. Point is, that team won't sniff the playoffs.

How many cups have the Sharks won with Dumbo Joe?

The Kovy ship left the harbor a while ago, and it isn't coming back to LA. Just another FA that Dean couldn't catch to add to the list.

That's another thing Dean was saying that FA's were not signing with the Kings because we're not yet a 100 point team. Well now we are and I don't see any FA's banging down our door and taking discounts.

I don't mind missing out on Kovalchuk - even though I was on the sign Kovy bandwagon - but not adding anyone at all so far is disconcerting. We're a team with a few glaring needs and DL has done nothing to address them so far. I've generally been a supporter of Dean's but my patience is starting to wear thin. Granted, he still could make some moves so I won't pass final judgment until I see the roster at the end of camp.

I'm starting to get sick of the "free agents don't want to sign in LA" excuse for Dean though. It's his job to sell the team and city to them and get them signed.

He's fine for now. If he can't lock up his own talent (Doughty, Johnson, Simmonds etc. and no I don't mean Frolov or Cammalleri) then he's probably done.
