But Parse got $900k so Richardson must be worth $2M!! OMGZ!!
One guy is praised on Hammond's blog, the other is kind of crapped on all year. Some people need to watch the game of hockey that is being played as opposed to waiting to form opinions based upon TMs qoutes or Hammond's musings.
I'm a big fan of this signing. Richardson is a dogged worker on the ice and can play very well on either the third or fourth line. I like to think he will have a serious jump in points this year. His linemates will go from Ivanans and Harrold to either Handzus/Simmonds or Schenn/Westgarth. Huge step in the right direction.
He said "announcement", nothing about the presser.
The Kings wouldn't announce a huge signing like Kovalchuk until Monday because they would want a press conference. You don't announce it on a Saturday, rumors will be it until late Sunday or Monday morning. If Kovalchuk is spotted flying back to LA, then we will have our answer.

And when Williams is hurt, he will be playing with Kovlachuk & Kopitar.

With our coach Richie has played on every line more than once! TM just uses the Karnack's Turbin with names on cards and draws his lines out that way... Its only a secret to those in the know. I think DL or his sidekick Hexy blind fold TM before he starts drawing out his lineups! The magic is in the Tubin!
On a less serious note I think Brad is a much much better player than Parse will ever be! I hope he can stay healthy and show last year was no fluke the guy was compared to Sakic for a reason he has skills. And as he has showed from day one alot of heart too! I hope we can be lucky enough to get him resigned next season. He is a score for this year...
I agree, a multi-year deal would have been nice, but 1 year at 900,000 IS a bargain, when you look at what he provided last year. To get that production for $900,000 isn't very common, and I expect a lot more to come next year. I see him getting 40-45 points next year.
This is a good contract for Richardson - he can play on either the 3rd or 4th line and the contact can be readdressed next offseason. Another plus is that it saves the arbitration hearing where DL and crew will tear him apart to keep the salary down

Wow, that's ballsy... I like it. Richardson is basically saying he thinks he can prove he's worth a hell of a lot more than just a qualifying offer by next season, CBA uncertainty be damned.
Really like the amount (from the team point of view. i.e. cap hit), but wish we could have gotten a 2 or 3 year deal.
Definitely wish he could have gotten a 3 year deal done, 3 years, 5 million would have been a sweetheart deal that I believe takes him right to UFA I believe,
I originally thought he would be a UFA after this year, but I guess not,
Remember when people were freaking out because Lombardi "screwed up" and let this go to arbitration? Remember when other people tried to remind them that it could still be decided before arbitration? Yeah, that was funny...
I think you get my point, all those guys will be battling for spots, the only solidified positions coming into training camp are Handzus' and Simmonds', maybe even Schenn, he'll be battling Cliche, Lewis and Elkins for 4th line center duties, although Lewis will crack the lineup and make the 4th line RW position.. this is how I think it'll turn out..
XX-Kopitar-Williams
Smyth-Stoll-Brown
Richardson-Handzus-Simmonds
Parse-Schenn-Lewis
Westgarth, Clune (pressbox and will be dressed for tougher opponents)
Is Clifford eligible for Manchester? Or does he have to go back to Barrie? I'd love to see him crack the lineup, because in two season he'll be our 3rd line LW playing with Schenn and Simmonds.

I believe he has to spend next season in junior or make the Kings out right, same as Schenn.
IMO, Clifford still has plenty to learn in Barrie. Maybe he will even make it to U20. Having him up with the Kings can be risky. He could turn out like Simmonds or end up like Moller. He will get plenty of ice time in junior and that's where he should be. Westgarth can provide similar skill level and with cheaper overall cap hit.
Schenn, on the other hand, will have problem making the team because of his cap hit. DL has said that Schenn is willing to take cut relative to cap hit in his contract....but we still have yet to see actual saving. Right now, there's no way he makes it at $3m cap hit as a 3rd or 4th line center.
If both Schenn and Clifford makes the team then that's almost a $4m cap hit. We would do better to spend that on a solid defenseman

You gotta like the message that both Richardson and Lombardi are sending with this signing. Anyone can do it once, let's see you do it again before I pay you for real. Then Richardson takes on the challenge without any fuss or drama. Kind of the exact opposite of a kid we had a couple of years ago. Funny, one is still in the NHL and as of today the other one isn't.
