The milisecond we signed Shelly Carcillo was gone anyway. I know everyone else here loves him to death but I'm not going to lose any sleep when he is inevetably dealt. What was he 6th in league penalties or something? Many of them untimely. Unfortunately many of them were also unearned, but refs base many decisions on the name on the back of the jersey. On a different note are we now calling Shelly "superstar.?" If so I like it and need to make a new Avatar with Molly Shannon and Jody Shelly photoshopped together.
You may want to change Carcillo to Carcillo's agent.
Meh Carcillo has a say in it also. If he really wants to stay and play for a team he said he loved to play for, he would try to make it work. Going 500k more then what he probablly deserves doesnt do that.
Technically we have 4 forward positions to fill. This is left by the spots of Cote, Asham, Powe, and Carcillo.
Now we signed Shelly, so now we have 1 mil of cap space left to fill 2 spots. This is if we carry an extra d-man instead of forward.
This changes nothing. He was already either gone or re-signing. If they intended to let him go, they still can by just refusing the amount in arbitration. If they legitimately were going to re-sign him, they still can do that at this point.
Yeah, it's hard to believe that the Shelley contract isn't part of the reason, if not the whole reason, that Carcillo wants arbitration.
The Shelly signing probably went something like this...
Shelley: So, did you hear back from any of those ECHL teams you called?
Shelley's agent: No, Jody. But I have GREAT news! You're not going to believe this, but it appears you do in fact have an offer to play in the NHL next year! It's from the Philadelphia Flyers, and wait til you see these terms!!!!
Shelley: Wow! 3 years, 1.1 million! That's almost $400k per year! Incredible, get me a pen quick!
Shelley's agent: No Jody, they're offering you $1.1 million per year.
Shelley's agent: Yeah, I think it might be a mistake, but **** it...that's what it says, let's just sign it and fax that **** back on the double!
Shelley & Shelley's agent after signing and faxing:
I don't get the Carcillo hate. Now, if you want to say that he won't be worth 1.5M then that is fine. But what the **** would you do if you saw the worst player on the team, by a considerable margin, sign a contract for 1.1M per year and you were being offering 900K? Exactly.
Carcillo is top 10 in the league or penalties drawn and should evolve into a 25-30 point grinder. His line was often extremely impressive when he was on our 4th line. So, the guy is by no means garbage... he just might not be worth 1.5M if that is what he gets.
