Tickets were $34 for non reserved and $55 for reserved which I find absolute garbage.
They advertised as $20 and $44, so I just about turned arund and went home.
Game was pretty poor I found, Pompey disappointed but then I knew not to expect much from them. I went mainly to see this Edmonton FC team and what they are all about.
They won't be seeing me for Miami FC game thats for sure.
Also, wtf is up with the security guys chasing people away from sitting on the sunny side of the stadium. I went and sat accross the field from the filled stand, which would make it East I believe only to have this security punk com after me and threaten with pressing charges as I am a security risk.
As has beed said. It was a epl only in advertising. It was a very bad championship league side that is over in north america. My understanding it was supposed to be fulham originally(I support fulham) but fulham could not fit it into their schedule and had better offers on the table. Most of the REAL. Epl teams that are on tour are missing their top guys. But portsmouth should not be billed as an epl team
I wouldn't say Pompey is a bad Championship league team, they will probably finish middle of the pack this year... I could only dream of Fulham coming to Edmonton, that would be awesome... But yeah Portsmouth are not an EPL team anymore... and probably wont be getting promoted either, Unlike Newcastle... which is nice to see them get back in the EPL.

Pompay is screwed this year big time
due to the fact they are still broke and are being prevented from buying any players--over here the latest odds have portsmouth being relagated again next year

Key words being 30 bucks for two PROFESSIONAL teams... Because really you are paying to watch the other team and not Edmonton FC. If you were paying to watch to the Edmonton FC crew, I would fully expect to see the Major League and Premier level seats packed for free at every game. And I hardly see that considering I play in that division.
I'm not suggesting that Major or Premier play is not entertaining, it actually is quite. I've coached Major Women's and my co-coach used to play Major Mens. He has the same objection but the reality is that, Edmonton FC is not Major/Premier level. It's a combination of local Major all-stars plus a few professional players from outside Edmonton. It's the basis for a "real" professional team and we have to start somewhere. I also believe that growing local talent, is important in the development of professional Canadian soccer.

It's all relative. When movies are competing at $10 per, and Fort Edmonton is $14, $20 isn't that bad. While these games are friendlies, there are no league games this season, so the friends are "it". And from the responses I've heard, the Edmonton FC players are treating it seriously at least, and are entertaining.
Would $10 convince you? It's also a what-the-market-will-bear thing and I think Edmonton FC is still in the experimental stages. With the 2000 plus showing recently, there's obviously enough people willing to pay $20 to see them play a friendly. Hopefully, it will continue to grow.
Obviously if only 300 people were coming out, then I might have a different opinion on the $20.
Agreed. This is building and hopefully for an eventual MLS club. Overall I've been pleased with the level of support except for the Colo Colo-Vitoria match which was criminal. Colo Colo had a better squad and players here than the LA Galaxy had. But alas, not Beckham..
But anyway attendance has been building and with Foote Field as a half decent venue(although I can't stand the turf, ball bounces and players have trouble making any pass out to the flank with pace. Ball just goes across goal line regularly.)
This is just the exhibition season and next year should be better. Its really easy to get to the games taking the LRT. People should give it a shot. Its a good night out.
I'm not saying it's expensive. I guess I just look at it from a different point of view than most people.
I've played with and against most of these guys throughout my Club/University soccer time in Edmonton here, and I feel the same way. Tough to justify the price when some of these guys were playing on the Henry Singer and Victoria fields not even a year ago.
As long as Mel Kowalchuk is involved, the possibility of overpricing tickets always exists. That being said, I'm still quite hopeful about FCE's future.

He's the same guy who ran the Cracker Cats, yes? From what I can remember, local media never said anything kind about the way he ran his business.
Has he been successful in the world of sports in other cities?
I think soccer will end up very successful here - but I really think we need a soccer specific stadium (or at least a way to play at Foote Field without the football markings).

He also ran the Trappers for many years prior to the Cracker Cats. There was many things wrong the Cracker Cats beyond Kowalchuk, and it started with the owner.

I understand but what ticket prices are you acceptable to you? $10? $5? $2?
Otherwise, what you're suggesting is that because you played with SOME (NOT ALL) of the FC players, you won't support their product because $20 is too high? Because ticket prices of $10 simply won't convince anyone that Edmonton is ready for MLS or any professional soccer team.
