Canucks Summer Summit (formerly known as State Of The Franchise)

Quote:

The Vancouver Canucks will make several 40th anniversary announcements on Wednesday, July 7th at 7:00 pm at their annual Canucks Summer Summit (formerly called ‘State of the Franchise’) season ticket holder event and you can watch it live on Canucks.com.

Live streaming begins at 4:45 when fans will get a glimpse of the Canucks of tomorrow as the prospects do battle in an on-ice session. The formal presentation starts at 7 p.m. when co-hosts John Shorthouse and Jim Robson kick off a night chock-full of excitement, including an address from president and general manager Mike Gillis & chief operating officer Victor de Bonis on the team and business direction for the upcoming season, a 40th anniversary announcement featuring special guests and a fan Q&A period with Mike Gillis and team personnel.

Canucks.com is the place to be Wednesday and everyday. Cheesy, but true.

Thank goodness BMac is not hosting the thing. He was horrid last year.

Several 40th anniversary announcements, eh?

In a dream world, it would be awesome to see them do several retro nights...not JUST a night where they do the old Rink and Stick logos, but maybe a night for that, a night for the Skate, heck, even a night in the old Vancouver Millionaires duds. Pay tribute to all the walks of Vancouver hockey history. That would be pretty sweet IMHO.

Special guests? Likely former players. Wonder if it could be Bure and Naslund, given the buzz about them being honoured at some point this year.

Either The Province, or Vancouver Sun, says expected announcements include Markus Naslund night and unveiling (or announcing) of a new 40th anniversary 3rd jersey

One thing I've really come to hate with the new Gillis regime is the marketing department and their penchant for ridiculous "modern" names for stuff. Summer Summit? Good god, what is this, the G-20?

B-Mac hosting last year was one of the worst acts of hosting anything I've seen in my life. Holy **** it was awful.

I'm going to this thing! primarily to get a photo with the Hart and Art Ross. That way I can lie to my grandkids and say I won and showed up to the awards ceremony in an old polo shirt!

Or just adding a 40th anniversary patch.

There's also going to be a prospects practice from 4:45-5:45 I believe.

Remember last year when those canucks fans asked the most retarded questions I have ever seen.

Please if you are going, ask decent questions

What do you mean "last year"?

I've been to three of these, 2 with Burke and 1 with Nonis. All of which were hosted by Shorty(why the heck they went with BMac last year, who knows). They have some schmuck running around with a microphone to determine who gets to ask questions. My last one, he basically asked all kids and a couple of scruffy old dudes who, apparently, just had to know whether or not the Canucks would come out with a cookbook program by the players like they did in 1970.

I mean seriously? You get to ask the General Manager of a freaking NHL team any question you want and you want to know if the players are going to make a GD cookbook?!

Jim Robson is pure class, a true gentleman. I really miss him calling the games. Wonder if I'll see him at the Brodeur Tourney Thursday?

I would be interested in hearing a Willie Mitchell update. Mitchell recently said he's symptom free, as you expect he might.

It has been ten days or so since MG spoke about Mitchell, and I'm wondering if there is continued interest from the Canucks side. A week in to FA season and nobody's said boo about pursuing Mitchell, Canucks or otherwise.

Given his recent concusion problems, I wonder if Mitchell would take a one-year deal at a reduced rate. Do the Canucks need to move Bieksa's salary before they can consider Mitchell? Do they prefer to keep Bieksa over Mitchell? Have the Canuck medical staff recently looked at WM, or is a physical on the schedule?

I'm not sure how the question comes out, but I am interested to hear MG's thoughts around this issue.

I can think of two:

1. Given Vancouver's travel schedule, what is Gillis' opinion on the optimum number of starts for Luongo this coming season?

2. The Canucks currently have nine NHL defensemen signed, all of whom are subject to waivers should they be sent to Manitoba. What specific priority within the active roster and/or reserve list does management intend to target via trade?

Of course, both of these will be answered in time. Might be nice to get something upfront however.
