As for your question, same could be said about Price. Halak is still unproven. He as proven that he gets tired easily and needs breaks to help him and rebound. Let's see how good he is in 2 years. Until then, he is as unproven as a full time number 1 than Price, who actually, as more NHL games played than Halak. One good half season does not make a career. Far from it.

I like Halak, but I don't fuly trust that he will be great. I suspect a goalie between 10-20 in the league in the long run. You do know that goalie equipment rules are changing next year and will favor bigger goalies? Equipment and jersey and everything will have to fit tight and will be measured based on your size. Small goalies will look smaller. Something that nobody knows how it will affect goalies, but certainly not good for a very small guy like Halak.

Anyways, nobody really knows what will happen, but I prefer to trust real NHL people (Habs management) and guys like Scoty Bowman to prefer Price over any internet Joe out there.
huh... nobody knows but YOU know how Halak will fare... great!

All things considered, for Halak especially, trading him was the more appropriate thing to do than going through arbitration.

Halak wanted long-term deal... and deserved one.

Good for you Halak, best of luck in St. Louis
Oh but you forgot Tim Thomas, you know the Bruins #1 goaltender. Anyone that takes that contract off their hands need to quit ASAP!

Do you think Halak will get booed when he comes back?

I suspect he will as most Bell Center fans are pure scum. Its a shame. Good job Halak.

People must be pinching themselves in the St. Louis organization. They got a 25 year old franchise goaltender for spare parts. At least Gauthier is a legend somewhere.

Love him and St.Louis got a deal. Halak will be a great anywhere he goes while we have to cross our fingers with Price.

lol lol

Ok, lets go around the league and trade for similar 'spare parts'. I'm not sure what we'd do with 23 Ellers, but I'll put some money on it being pretty good.

Solid deal for Halak, not much of a risk for St. Louis. With their cap space, even if Halak ends up as just a solid backup they can afford it easily. We definitely could not have.

Now, if Price signs a similar deal I WILL join the chorus of boos. We need to sign him to a 3/7.5 type deal, at most. Would prefer something more like 2/4.

Because Eller is young and you don't know him means he is a spare part?

Why would you boo? Price gets similar money to Halak because they have similar career numbers.

Why they have almost the same numbers over their careers, why does Halak get to great wherever he goes but we have to cross our fingers with Price?

Yah spare parts...that's what we got.

Let's reverse the situation shall we.

Would you guys trade Subban and White for Halak? Because that's essentially what we got with Eller and Schultz. St.Louis fans were as high on Eller as we are on Subban.

I doubt many of would want to trade Subban for Halak. The more depth we have, the less we have to rely on our goaltender to win us games...see the Red Wings, Flyers, Hawks. Eller gives us that depth because once he turns into the scoring center that he will become we will have three 60 point two-way centers.

Anybody remembers how Halak stood up against Washington and Pens, 45 + shots per game? I don't know if Price can handle that.

I remember those. I also remember the rest of his career with the Habs instead of just that part.

Both players have put up great performances some in winning games and others in losing games.

Go to the main board transactions section. It has been explained in depth in that thread. Works out to between 5-7% difference, if I recall.

If the Habs had a 23 years old and under group of defenders like Erik Johnson, Pietrangelo, Junland, Ian Cole, Polak etc AND Subban but had no goaltending they'd probably be willing to entertain Subban for Halak discussions. Put another way, it's entirely possible that Subban isn't enough to get Eller from St. Louis in this scenario. Doesn't matter how "high" fans are on either guy.

I understand what you are trying to get at, but Eller is no PK Subban in terms of prospect value. PK is a calder candidate going in to next year, Eller is not.
