So is Seto going to sign for 2.9M, cause if Hawks don't match that's pretty much what's left before they have to use overage space...

It seems to me that the offer sheet is a great tool to expand your talent base quickly by simply giving up future picks. Wonder what Bobby Ryan would cost us?

I know, I know, Dean ("make my day") Lombardi doesn't do offer sheets. I was jus' thinkin' aloud.
I would love if Dean gave Ryan an offer sheet! Ha

DL needs to sign JJ, DD and Simmonds to an extension then offer Ryan an offer sheet.

I don't see how the Ducks don't match any offer sheet to Ryan, even if it's a ridiculous Vanek-sized one. They've got enough space to match pretty much anything.

Hawks can't afford to keep Hjalmarsson with Niemi up this year and Seabrook next. Win a cup, lose half your team, ouch!

I wouldn't worry about the hawx.

There will be enough FAs that will sign under FMV with the reigning stanley cup champs.

Do you think this could help get Jack signed for a similar deal? Maybe 12-13 Million for 4 years?

I doubt it...I feel like he is going to feel like he's worth a lot more than he really is!

Don't think it was collusion, signing RFAs is usually futile unless the team is hard up against the cap (ie, Chicago). And you have to factor in the player actually wanting to sign the offer sheet which isn't always a given.

After Penner/Vanek in 2007, Vancouver signed David Backes to an offer sheet in 2008. St. Louis matched and then a week later signed Steve Bernier to an offer sheet which seemed more or less like an "up yours, we don't even want him, have fun matching" type of deal.

I'm not a big fan of offer sheets, unless it's a situation like Chicago where they deserve to lose players because of their badly managed cap.

SJ gives up a 1st and a 3rd in next year's draft if Chicago doesn't match.

He's looked good on a great team and is young, but he's cashing in after one season IMO so there is some risk involved with this on San Jose's side: especially because we are talking 4 years and they are moving a 1st round pick for the privelege.

Yes...he has looked good whenever I've watched the Hawks but this is not a move I'd want Lombardi to make.

At least we know he isn't going to the KHL, not like it needed proof or anything, but it is still nice to have a concrete quote from an influencial figure concerning the talks:

Quote:
According to Dmitry Chesnokov of Yahoo! Sports, Kovalchuk’s mother spoke to the media about her son and said, “I want my son to play in the NHL. Because to play in the best league was always his dream.”

Because they have no goalie

Strange tactic if you ask me.

Maybe they expect Chicago to match, thereby further hogtying the champs.

Or maybe they've gotten on the Deep D in front of OK Goaltender wins Cups bandwagon.

What's their defense without Hjalmarsson? It's kind of **** without him. They are basically replacing Blake with this move.

Possibly better than LA's now. They have 5 guys to our 4.

You're correct, but I'd just like to point out that MLB tickets, on average, are much cheaper than the NHL.

You can get tickets to a Dodgers game for $5. The cheapest for a Kings game is something like $35.

Now Dean just needs to convice his wife and mother that the West coast is where he needs to play. I think the rest of the quote was about how she feels that he is safer in North America than he would be in Russia.

They don't have deep D though. Murray is their best defensive dman, and all he can do is hit. Sharks are jumping on the, score more goals than Nitty flounders around trying to save, bandwagon. Plus, im certain they have to get rid of someone so they can sign Seto, they dont have the capspace at the moment im sure.
