Hey, if you don't think that Shelley and Zherdev are more important than Carter and Giroux and JVR then... well... I feel bad for you.
This. The Flyers are set at forward anway with Shelley being here for the next three seasons,
we just need some scrubs to fill out the other spots.
I just hope we finally get someone capable at defense, maybe the rangers are stupid enough to flip Redden for one of our pylons.
I would be 108% OK with that. Maybe even 109. If it allows Turco to be signed or a decent 1a to be traded for I'll increase my percentage even more. Leighton as a 1b is a million times better scenario than Leighton as a 1.
Ugh. Why that term Homer, why that term? This contract is a redemption special, pay him like it.
Zherdev was awarded 4million bucks by an arbitrator 1 year ago. 3 years at 2.75 is a very good deal anyway you look at it. Hes definately a good offensive replacement to Gagne, better than anything we will get for him in a trade anyway.
If it's Gagne on the move, I'll be flippin pissed. Move Carle or someone else on defense considering it's going to be a disaster having the back end locked up with their contracts for so long...especially considering that JVR, Giroux, Leino need to be re-signed.
The Flyers are close to striking a deal with Ukrainian free agent winger Nikolai Zherdev, according to league sources.
Zherdev, 25, played five seasons in the NHL, four with the Columbus Blue Jackets and one with the New York Rangers. He left the league following the 2008-09 season, after racking up 58 points (23 goals) in 82 games for the Blueshirts.
He was allowed to walk following arbitration in the 2009 offseason, after winning a $4 million salary award, and left the NHL to play for Atlant of the KHL. It is rumored he is seeking a similar sum from the Flyers.
Zherdev has a reputation as a moody, inconsistent player. He’s certainly talented in generating offense, compiling a notable 99 goals and 140 assists in 365 career NHL games, but isn’t defensive-minded.
